[from left->right: Jar A, Jar B, Jar C, Jar D, Jar E



okay so i left the base solution to sit over night and the naptha cleared up quite a lot, so i transferred all that i could of that to Jar E.

I pulled jar B from jar C after letting it settle overnight.
jar C is what was left sinking at the bottom from the last picture i posted, after leaving overnight.

i just now have added 50ml of clean naptha to the base solution, which is shown as Jar D.

Jar A was the first pull (OP), seemingly clean. after 19 hours in the freezer at coldest temp. it is much less cloudy and there are noticeable crystals floating around and stuck to the side of the glass, but at the bottom there is a yellow layer of frozen matter about a mm thick. when i tip it upside down it is clearly visible


(thawed after a half hour)



i'm putting it back into the freezer for the remainder of the 24 hours now.



i just wanted to know if anything looks "off"

You don't want super fine root, tiny chunks work best.

Looks like you got some kind of adverse bullshit mixed in with your concoction, and it's frozen along with the actual crystals. I'd let that dry out and see how it turns out, but Dick is right, looks kind of nasty.

Not sure if it's been addressed already, but cloudy naphtha is an indicator you need a colder freezer, or that you need less naphtha in there.

In the future, stay away from powders. I think what you pulled may be good, but I'd advise searching for a method to clean it first.

yea otherwise it looks like a nice fat pull aside from the brown junk. maybe try cleaning it with some rubber cement thinner (go to any major art supply store like michaels) it may take out all the impurities who knows? i'd say its worth a shot over throwing it out.

and dont let this get u down, you can always try again.

Last thing I would do is start adding more crap to it.

Compile your crystals, let them dry, and let us know what they look like. Recycle the naphtha (I'd try and evaporate maybe 25% of it off) and try freezing it again.

Envix are you recycling the naphtha or have you been using new naphtha for each pull?

I think the reason, as others have suggested, is that you had rather a lot of basic solution floating around in your naptha.

The trick is separating it out.  The only real way to do this I've found is to take your glass containing the browney naptha and put it in a hot water bath.  The addition of heat plus stirring and then leaving it to settle for a few hours seems to help a lot.

The brown stuff should form a film on the bottom of your jar, and then its just a matter of tipping the naptha out carefully.

Ahh I didn't even think of that. This dude is probably right, you may have pulled out some lye with the naphtha. Reduce the naphtha a bit, heat it up (in sink or bathtub) and try pulling again. When you pull, only pull 50% of the naphtha, that way you're 100% clean, and you won't miss any because all you need to do is recycle it so it mixes back in with the rest and you'll eventually get all the good stuff.

okay so how do i do a hot water bath?

i only pulled 50% to begin with, ive read this brown naptha stuff is pretty common with powdered root bark, and should be resolved by diluting it with more water :shrug:


this is what i've got aftr about an hour of drying

Just close the lid tight and run warm water over the jar for a few minutes to prevent cracking, then submerge it in a bath of hot water.

I can't speculate about adding more water, if you read that somewhere then go for it, I've never had that problem, but then again I've never used powdered Jurema.

What I would do, is try and mix those crystals back in with the main jar. Not sure how to go about that, maybe mix the naphtha in with that then pour it back in. Then I'd put the whole jar in a hot tub for a few minutes and swish it around. Pull 50% of the naphtha, and try to freeze it again.

they do say washing with 10% ammonia 90% distilled water and pouring it over your shit with it on a coffee filter is a good way to wash crystals, you can also always re-crystallize, i would not recommend the ammonia wash though as i have heard horror stories and have not tried or seen it tried myself, re-crystallizing is simple however
