Is there a point to being alive?
    #13330628 -

It all just seems useless.  I'm just wondering what the point is.  Humans are pretty wretched creatures, in general and it seems all we do is consume and destroy.  I just get tired of living in this world and I am super-cynical today.

Is there a point to dreaming or composing music?

“Strengthened by contemplation and study,
I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

it is very sad..but i have just want to enjoy life and live with the planet and its beauty each second..i believe we are something special, and are capable of things beyond our imagination something 98% of the world dont realize.

Experience, as wide a range as possible

'Oh the beauty'
'Oh the humanity'

Oh... to live

I go through my ups and downs too. Some days life is the most beautiful thing, and others it is something I wish I was never born into. As far as meaning goes, I think we create out own meaning. Sartre says it well: Just because meaning is subjective doesn't mean it is any less real within the human inter-subjective sphere. The meaning I have created for myself is to try and make the world a better and more sustainable place for all of it inhabitants. There is something liberating about not having any transcendental or objective meaning or morals attached to our lives - It makes it more like a playground.

I pretty much agree you with you in principle but I am very weary of this planet and all its inhabitants.  I was feeling universal love last week and it disappeared.  Now I just feel disappointed by everything and everyone and feel such anger.

Like I saw some pictures of some starving kids in Africa, a picture of a dying child with a vulture waiting nearby to pick its bones, and that set me off.  Suddenly I hated everyone when I saw that picture of sadness because we've allowed that to happen and it seems like nobody really gives a shit about anyone else, at the root.

Creativity feels good, but that's the only thing in life that seems worth living for at this point and even then only a selective few relative to the world's population will ever be able to create; most of the human population are just trying to survive.

I dunno; I've had a lot of strange thoughts recently revolving around hatred and anger towards other people and unless I want to end up a bitter jaded and twisted old woman, I have to address it now.

Yeah, I think this cynical jaded-ness is just part of my ever-fluctuating cycle of self discovery, but it still feels like crap.  I believe humans are conscious creators but look what we've done, look at the world we've created.  Nobody seems to really care about anyone else; I don't trust anyone right now.  It seems like it's just everyone out for themselves.  I don't have much evidence to the contrary.

Shit I hate feeling so pessimistic (in the wake of heightened love-consciousness this feels particularly devastating) but I wanted to at least talk it out.

Yea, IMO it's the mass ego - people think they are separate and act accordingly. I really do believe that something amazing is going on on our planet right now though. I'm optimistic about the future and what it may contain. If just a fraction of the world came to the realization of inherent Oneness with this reality, I think a transformation could happen at a incredible rate. Only time will tell.

The only way this changes is when we become aware of it & feel what we have been doing, or what we have been ignoring.
Your not ignoring it anymore so you're feeling whats going on, all the suffering, but hating people isn't helping people.

Its natural to feel this way after such a huge hit of that Love, very natural

The whole reason people are greedy & selfish is cause they're suffering inside themselves
So we can hate greedy abusive people or see that really they are the most needy people, suffering
Thats how i have compassion for the users & abusers of this world anyway
Everyones trying to fill 'their' own hole inside
Not realizing we're all trying to fill the same hole

Whats gonna change the world for the better, that love you felt? or the hate your feeling now?

I think it comes down to us being able to accept that horrific suffering is part of this life, and falling in Love with that suffering is the only way to cure it

So it comes down to - how can we grow to Love/embrace suffering when feels so natural to not Love it?
Something has to die

I find that compassion & misanthropy are often two sides of the same coin. It's coming from the same impulse. One side of you wants to save humanity. The other wants to destroy humanity. I think in both cases you just want our suffering to end.

Wow, that really resonated with me right now.  Thanks.

There is no point except the one we make for ourselves. If the world sucks then it sucks. You can do yourself in or make the best of a bad situation. Both are viable options imo. You can even just be super miserable if you want. This is something one like you will have to learn to live with. I'm in the same boat.

the world's whatever you imagine it is i think

"when the mind's pure the world's pure" or something

when we stop externalizing our own perceptions as something objective, i think we gain incredible freedom

"but then what about other people??" - i think we have to lose this idea

the diamond sutra says the buddha does not think "i must liberate all sentient beings" as really there's no beings to liberate! and that's why there's liberation!

this isn't to espouse indifference towards others, in fact emptiness is naturally compassionate, so it seems to be effortless and more effective (which is a great combo in my books)

This thread has certainly inspired me in many ways...I feel much more at peace.  I am enjoying a multitude of thoughts revolving around the dualistic nature of creation/destruction.

I guess you just have to stop taking it seriously. Instead of dying children making it tougher to think life is a good thing, just see it all as a kind of experimental clusterfuck. lol. Well you can choose different words if you like.

I think we all get out of this okay.

The human race has its duality of good and evil. If you look at humans metaphorically as Angels and Demons, you have to ask yourself, which one are you. Are you here to hurt the world or to help it? Basically you create your own life purpose. For people with a kind heart, the point to being alive should be to have a positive impact on the world while you're here.
