I did not take it seriously but barely managed to graduate.
I wish I woulda taken it seriously though.

I did for the first semester, got a 3.2
Slept through the rest.  Graduated with a 2.6 :shrug:

I don't learn like that. I have to UNDERSTAND the concepts behind something to KNOW it.
It's not enough that I know that it works.... I need to know WHY it works.
You just memorize something and you'll forget it a week later.
Not everyone learns in a completely linear fashion and they need to realize that.


In regards to high school homework, this statement is dead on.  Teachers give homework for the sake of just giving homework in high school.  During my time at college I did every homework assignment I was given (even if they werent required).  I felt that college professors had a more liberal teaching platform to work with, and that showed in the difficulty of the courses.  When I did do my homework, I did well, and the opposite applied when I did not.

To answer the question posed by the OP, I did not take school seriously except for my physics and calculus courses because the "idea" of high school is philosophically wrong on several levels.  Thinking back on my high school experience, the themes were conformity, general segregation, and the idea that teaching is not more than just spewing out information.  I always heard shit about teachers being "life coaches", I always thought about the idea of life coaches when I would sit in a yearbook class where the teacher was on myspace every day..  If you counted the "life coaches" in my school, you would no longer wonder why test grades were so pathetically low there.

If I did not give myself the drive to learn through my curious nature, I would be fucking stupid.

Yes, I agree they are "life coaches", and it's true that "high school gets you ready for the real (JOBS) world". School is pretty much about dumbing people down and conditioning them to be "good" citizens of our society. I could go on, but I think that sums it up.

I graduated with a 3.87 weighted. Unweighted was about a 2.4. I took it seriously enough to get into school :shrug:
