North Idaho is the shit, lived there for 18 years, tons of old growth forest, mountains and wildlife, also chalked full of uneducated rednecks who hate on the "Californians" that have "taken over" the state.

I have been rafting down the salmon river. 100 mile float. It was AMAZING. Wish I had the pics to show you. I would definitely live there.
And the smell is unbelievable. The conifers let off quite an aroma, crisp and clean.

I've driven through there. It has a real boring vibe so if you like to party there's no reason to go there. They have good baked potato tho.

Depends on what part of Idaho your in. If your not the outdoorsy type then Im sure Idaho will be really boring for you.
The town of Salmon is cool, and the Salmon River itself is completely beautiful. As mentioned before, the northern part of the state is where its at. I've done some hiking on Montana's side of the Bitter Root mountain n range and it was awesome, don't see why Idahos side would be any different. If your not a fan of yuppie tourist types then you should avoid Ketchum and Sun Valley.
My mother was born in Pocatello and raised on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation. There's a lot of racist hicks there and the natives get treated like second class citizens. I went to Montana with my mother (full blooded Shoshone) this summer and had a bad time driving thru there. The local farm boys didn't like 2 natives driving around with California plates apparently. Our car got keyed one night and the next day some motherfucker rammed a shopping cart into the driver side door.

Right on I was born in Coeur d'Alene... Like everyone says though, north and south Idaho are practically two different states.

This much is true, the atmosphere is extremely conservative (not in a personal freedom way... in a fuck everyone who breaks a law as hard as they can way)... I've moved out of state for this exact reason pretty much... Well amongst other reasons Its not a bad place to settle down - I could see myself in a place like it later in my life, I just need more going on right now.

Idaho has some awesome mountain ranges if you're into mountaineering and bouldering. It also has some great hot springs, and one amazing one in particular that most of the locals know about.
There's a town called Lava Hot Springs in Idaho that is basically setup around some lava hot springs, and that's where you will meet the friendlier crowd that likes to party, though it's mostly tourist, a lot of them are from other parts of Idaho, or from Utah.
Besides that, Boise is going to be your best bet for meeting good connects.
Idaho has beautiful landscapes though, and if getting a hold of good drugs isn't a problem and you want to get away from civilization Idaho wouldn't be a bad choice.
I really want to take mescaline there.

if you're into climbing, idaho is home to city of rocks, which is a climbing mecca, even better than red rocks, imho.

better than red rocks?! what's this heresy?! even if you don't consider the climbing red rocks is way better due to the concentration of psychedelics in the parking lot every friday night!
