Yeah I could see that being a probelm now that I think about it. Before you freeze the meet marinate it. Im not sure what to marinate groundhog with but from my understanding its gamy like lamb or deer .

So oil, Slat, pepper, garlic and some jalapenos would do wonders also will help make it even more tender!  How much do you think the little guy weighs versus how much meet your predicting to get out of hime?

Looking at him, I'd say he weighs about 10 lbs or so.  I estimate about 5-6 lbs of meat.

Im gonna say 2 lbs of meet  maybe less unless you plain on eating the innards and bones

Its like the best, highest-class road kill you could ever eat.  Call me a pussy if you want, but it seems to me that if ground hog tasted any kind of good, people would make groundhog burgers and and groundhog dogs.

Aww is this gonna be your first kill ? Then you have to be the one to shoot it and or slit its neck. Also you should gut it your self with only direction from your Friend. How does it feel to be a hunter :smirk:

I've heard they're very tasty.  I guess chickens and whatnot just became more popular, and thus the norm.  Hardly anyone up here kills their own food anymore, and I'm sure groundhog, no matter how well seasoned or prepared, doesn't have much of a market in the suburbs.

But if he was fucking up your garden and the likes eatin' your food - then by technicality your food constitutes a large portion of his mass, therefore he is yours! To eat, greet, meet, and beat.

Skin and quarter your Wood Chuck and par boil him in salted water for 20-30 min.

chop and render 4 slices of Bacon.
add quartered wood Chuck.
1 Lg. Onion, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
1 Lg. carrot, chopped
2 Bay Leaves  ( I would add garlic  maybe a bit of brown sugar too)

When Onion is translucent add,
1 can of BEER ( I would use a red wine about 2-3 cups)
1 cup of chicken stock (use lease maybe more wine )
water if needed
Bring to a boil,cover, reduce heat, simmer 2-2.5 hrs.

Remove from heat, let cool, pull meat from bones and return pot to stove,
Add meat,
1 cup frozen or fresh peas
6 Lg. Mushrooms, sliced.
S+P to taste
Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 15 min. until done.


I pulled from here the stuff in ( ) is me.  adding more veggies never hurt either  I think potatoes in it would be epic

but the potatoes would take longer to cook fyi so throw them in for 20 mintues then throw in the other veggie besides it would thicken it up a bit and make it so much tastier

Well I royally fucked up that cleaning.  Nobody could lend me a sharp enough knife and I didn't have any of my own so I had to hack at it with a Ginsu kitchen knife and it just fucked it all up.  Got it right through the skin and guts the first shot and the skin was literally impossible to take off with what I had.  I'll have to get a nice sharp knife and try this again.

Ah dude that sucks. Next time I come down I'll bring my sharpening stone and a few of my knives. With some practice I've gotten my kitchen knives to razor sharpness. We will eat a ground hog, come hell or high water.
