seems pretty dumb to sign up to a torrent site, when it gets busted not only will they know you visited the site, but they will know how much you downloaded and possiblly all the torrents you downloaded as well, for all we know the pigs setup that site in the first place

Whats the deal with invite only sites? Like its safer? How hard is it to get into these sites? Random people you dont know on the internet? That sounds just as safe as isohunt or any other

It allows them to filter out total leeches via share ratio. there's no extra safety. If you got in you can bet your ass people whos job it is to get in can as well.

Well on open sites newly released torrents are readily available. Why search for an invite and sign up when that shits ready for download?

Demonoid is not what you would call a true private site.
For one they don't care about ratios(well they do but), their software does not track it like the real private trackers do.
Demoniod is more of the entry to private trackers. Keep up your ratio and then you can say hey I have this ratio, see I am good can you give me an invite to a better place?
I will say demonoid it better than a public tracker such as TPB, BTjunkie or iso hunt.

Take this with a grain of salt...
I have heard that some companies will upload a movie to a public tracker and like T.P.B. and and then watch who downloaded it.

I may be misunderstanding you, but invite sites will get releases earlier. One example (since it's the only that applies to me) is things like HBO/Showtime shows. If I'm out and miss Weeds it is usually on Demonoid within a few hours of airing. If I go to a site like BTjunkie it usually takes till the next day before its up.

There also tends to be better access to rarities. Apps that may not be common. Or one time I uploaded a CD to Demonoid that I think you'd be hard pressed to find on any other site (local band).

true. i've just run into the occasional version or old software or rare title than happens to only be private. that was back when mini-nova was around though, these days btjunkie doesn't bog me down with private torrents.
