it can the fighter just has to be adaptable, he has to have the drive and
the eagerness to crush his opponent, if he's afraid of getting hit then
he's certainly gonna lose and that's what I've seen the most out of karate
and kung fu in the rings

i dont think its fair to say it doesnt work. the art of fighting was originally for pride and self defense instead of gratuitous pride(as in modern fighting leagues). i personally think the best fighting style would be a combination of several techniques suitable to the situation, i.e. grappling with someone your bigger than or relying on your strikes and quickness with someone your smaller than. kung fu gets a bad rep in america when its original invention by monks or whoever was just reasonable self defense.

also well said prisoner, that raises another point, i dont think the people who fight in rings should even be representative of kung fu at all because it goes against the spirit of it anyways.

I disagree, competition is a large part of kung fu, it's half of the way of
life, you ever watch those old kung fu movies where they had platforms in
the middle of town, they fought for everyoen to see who the best was
