kar?ma
n.

1. Hinduism & Buddhism. The total effect of a person's actions and conduct during the successive phases of the person's existence, regarded as determining the person's destiny.
2. Fate; destiny.
3. Informal. A distinctive aura, atmosphere, or feeling: There's bad karma around the house today.

something like that.....

a lot of people look at it like the what goes around comes around effect...you do bad things you recieve bad things

but it can also be used like the energy you get from things.

well like for instance if you met someone and just got a weird energy from them, something was off about them, you didn't know what but you didn't like it....some people would call that getting bad karma from them.

you can use the term that way, yes but in the true meaning, according to the traditional hindu and buddhist philosophies it's, as the definition said, The total effect of a person's actions and conduct during the successive phases of the person's existence, regarded as determining the person's destiny. You might want to do soem research on hinduism and buddhism if that's kind of hard to wrap your head around.

No need, I just needed to get the info so I know what somebody means by a certain way of talking to me.

Thanks a lot.

In my agnostic point of view, it could be a possible thing.

But then again.. My person has passed by the previous version of my person. So there is no other point of view then the agnostic one.

I love deep communication.  :smirk:

Explain you exact take on agnosticism if you will. (Be careful though cause if we continue on this talk of karma and agnosticism they'll boot our asses to the spirituality and philosophy forum)

That would be against forum rules: discussion on any topic

Let me quote a great agnostic in hope to give an exact take on agnosticism as I see it. I know there are many forms, but thats more because agnosticism has been translated wrongly in the past by certain people who saw it more as atheism then the form I think agnosticism really is.

Quote:

Bertrand Russell (1947) said:
In general, if a man says, for instance, that the earth is flat, I am quite willing that he should propagate his opinion as hard as he likes. He may, of course, be right but I do not think he is. In practice you will, I think, do better to assume that the earth is round, although, of course, you may be mistaken. Therefore, I do not think we should go in for complete skepticism, but for a doctrine of degrees of probability.

I have a question.

I don't believe at all in karma. I completely deny its existence. It's all a bunch of religious crap to me.

My question is, even if I don't believe even a single bit in karma, will I be affected by it anyways?

If it exists.

I'm quite sure that even if I denied the existence of rocks, I would still be affected (and hurt) if someone launched a rock at full force towards my cranium.

karma is the balance of the universe

you can observe it in nature
and through a telescope, or microscope

Cause and effect.

Everything is the cause of an effect, and the effect of a cause.

The part I find hard to swallow is this whole "good karma" and "bad karma" thing. I am not convinced that doing good deeds will result in only positive outcomes. For instance, I could do something which at the time I felt to be very high minded and a good thing to do, but then it could cause a chain of events that 10 years down the line could kill a puppy.

You just don't know.
