What I recieved in my in box today (about the February 15 anti-war rally), I'm having trouble believing this:

Dear Friend of United for Peace and Justice:

United for Peace and Justice filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday morning
against the City of New York over its refusal to issue us a march
permit for February 15. We had requested a permit to assemble near
the United Nations, march past the UN, and then march through Manhattan
to a rally location near Central Park. The City countered by saying
that we could have a "stationary event" but not a march.

We have a hearing scheduled for Friday at 3PM at the Federal Courthouse
in Manhattan. If you are in the New York City area, you can help
defend your right to public protest by joining a rally outside the courthouse beginning at 2PM.

WHEN: 2-4PM, Friday, February 7
WHERE: United States Federal Courthouse, Foley Square, Centre & Worth Streets, Manhattan
SUBWAY: 4/5/6 to Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall or N/R/W to City Hall

Wherever you live, we ask that you keep up the pressure on NYC Mayor
Bloomberg and the NYPD by continuing to make phone calls in support
of our right to march -- even if you've called already.

protests around the world, and a place where your organization can endorse February 15.

Globally, February 15 promises to be the single largest day of anti-war

IMO not issuing a permit clearly violates the First Amendment. In fact, even having to get a permit is a violation.

That's exactly what I thought. Although, the constitution does only imply the freedom of the people to "assemble", not to "march". This is still freedom of expression though....

Give Bush a break here. For many years in most major cities you must have a permit to have a march/parade.

I'm not saying he's at fault. I'm just saying that under his administration any violation of the Constitution should come as no surprise.

Not according to the majority of Americans. Although I agree the Patriot Act blows. I believe it will be ruled unconstitutional.

The rules weren't fucked with. It was a closely contested election and Gore had every right to demand a recount. The Supreme Court ordered the recount to stop.

Gore demanded a selective recount and it would have taken past the Florida state deadline. Gore's team wanted the deadline put aside for them. This was a blatant effort to fuck with the rules. Hence illegal and unconstitutional.

The US constitution also has a date where results must be turned in.

And to top it all off, when the recount was done after Bush was in, Gore still lost. Funny thing was he lost by even a larger margin when the votes were added up in the selected counties he wanted. Look it up, it's east enough to find.
