I used to be a big fan of ZoneAlarm but the latest versions are consumerized garbage, and you have to pay yearly to use it.

I'd post the links and serials for all the latest software firewalls mentioned so far but was just wondering if the mods would tolerate it.  :confused:

Yeah, its not a wise idea to post serial number, keygens, etc...  The mods (cough cough) would have to delete the post.

Zone Alarm gets my vote. I've been using it for over a year now without the slightest problem.

I saw someone post that it eats up a lot of resources? I haven't seen that at all on my system. For the most part, it's invisible until I start using a new program that needs to access the internet.

black ice doesnt block everything and zone alarm isnt the best either...


try tiny firewall , its free, and works great.
basicly a better zonealarm type firewall, great for anyone :laugh:

very good on system resources, not a hog at all.

Black ICE is the ONLY firewall I use and like. Every other one I've tried, uncluding Zone Alarm, cause noticeable slowdowns in my connection speed, even with cable. Plus, Black ICE does not shoot out annoying popups asking whether or not IEX should be allowed to access the Internet.

It takes a while to configure, but ZoneAlarm works well for me. You just gotta use the feature to remember the programs you want to give access to the net.
