Did I kill my spores from heat?

I recently made a couple of spore syringes from a print, tried using a paper clip and also a glass stirring rod as inoc loops. I flame sterilised them both, but after I'd done it, I realised I didn't wait all that long for them to cool down. My jars haven't germinated after a few days (no contams either), I'm wondering if I killed them while making the syringe? :mad2:

Sounds iffy. The make shift loops should have cooled on contact with the water. More time will tell the story.

For one of them (the glass rod) I didn't put any water on the print, just scraped them off into a shot glass. Seems like glass takes ages to cool down, so I guess it was too hot. When using the paper clip I did put water on the print, I'll just have to wait and see for those ones.

Don't worry about it, they will germinate, spores are tuff,durable little puppies. They have survived a lot more cataclysms then you could imagine my friend,and they are still with us!!!

I dont know though. I never let my jars cool long enough and its been over a week with zero myc. But just wait and see, thats what im doing but I dont think mine made it =(

Looks like using the glass rod without letting it cool did kill a lot of spores. Those jars have germinated, but very slowly, and with much less mycelium than the jars where I used a paperclip (and water on a part of the print).

Also I did two more batches (from the same prints) where I let the makeshift loop cool (not glass this time) and they have all taken off quite well, with decent mycelium growth (considering the cold temperature). :smile:
