I placed 5 just innocultaed jars into a compartment in my house that gets really warm during the day. i placed a thermometer in there and checked back after a few hours and i was shocked that it was almost 100f in there. my question is: are the sproes still alive?....so far i have seen no colonization....but its only been 4-6 days

If nothing happens after two weeks then consider them dead.

consider temps between 73 and 85 pretty good temps, I always remember something I read a while back concerning Growing temps and Spores to Mesc - temps/ shrooms are like humans most of us are comfortable in the mid 70's and some of us love the 80's but close to 90 is just to much heat for most , consider this when going through the growing process.

I've read that 90 or above kills the spores. (www.growmushrooms.org)

I can't garauntee it, but I have a hunch, that you may be O.K. Worse things have happened to me.

hey man - That exact thing happened to me. My temp reached 102F in my chamber one day. It completely killed all growth. But here's what I did.
I had growth in 3 jars. I took the growth out and broke it into marble sized chunks and used a honey water tek. It saved me. Here's the recipe:
one half-pint jar
one teaspoon of organic honey
bowl of H2O2(only if using mycelium from jars)
In a half-pint jar, fill halfway with warm water(melts the honey)
Add one teaspoon of "ORGANIC" honey. Make sure it says
organic.
Stir until water is a light yellow tinted.
Keep the jar slightly loose and steam it for 20 mins on medium heat. Don't overdo it. The sugars will carmelize rendering the water useless Let cool overnight.
In a sterile enviroment, open the jars of mycelium and dig up mycelium with clean spoon.
Immediately give the mycelium a bath of H2O2 for 30 secs.
Then immediately transfer mycelium into jar of sterile honey water.
Shake.
Let sit in a warm(78-82F) room.
2 days later inject 2cc's H2O2 into jar of honey water.
Shake.
I like to cold shock mine two days later to kill off any contams and then I store the jar either in a low place in my fridge or a cool, dry room.
Hope this helps

Hey - same thing happened to me but no growth at all. Can I pressure cook the jars and then re-inocculate with other spores? Don't want to throw out good grains if I don't have to.
