Expect A Big East Coast Hurricane Season

The Atlantic Basin is mostly 1-2 degrees C above normal and the east coast is 1-3 C above normal. Plus, there is a weak La Nina in place meaning more tropical activity off the coast of Africa.

Ocean temps are hot. The hotter the better for hurricanes.

Man! I've been hearing about a big hurricane season for a couple months now. This is great on so many levels!!! 1) I live in central FL on the Atlantic Coast, by on the coast, I mean i can see ocean from the top floor of my apartment building. So thats just gnarly. 2) There's a lot of oil floating around in/on the gulf of mexico right now. One good hurricane can come along and sweep a whole bunch of that oil outta the gulf and right up into the Mississippi Delta. once again, a fantastically gnarly idea 3) I have no less than 4 trips to Miami planned during this hurricane season, and I'd love nothing more than to be stuck in some expensive hotel in Miami Beach without electricity, water, etc. Because everybody knows, the cool part about Miami isn't picking girls up in clubs, its getting a free fun-filled day of experiencing the stone age!!
edit: please not the extreme sarcasm in the above post

my friend (a meteorologist) has told me that basically nobody knows what the oil slick will cause. He said there are theories saying that because of the slick, it will impede evaporation, effectively cutting the hurricane off from the very fuel it runs on. That is the theory I hope and pray is correct.

oily mushrooms.... hmmmmm
i'm not too worried about the rain. My area has a GREAT storm drainage system. it took 3 days of steady, torrential downpour to overwhelm the system and start flooding the streets back during Fay. then when the rain stopped it took literally hours for the floods to recede into the drains.
the storm surge, wind, etc is what scares me. Plus I'm not the evacuate kinda person. I'm the guy that stays behind and drives down to the marina to let out peoples lines, tie things down that need tied down etc.

Many of you are confusing the Gulf of Mexico with the Atlantic Ocean where the east coast is located.

ugh... miami and hurricanes don't mix....I'm recalling those shitty times of humidity and candles.... and andrew.. which I luckily had a second home in the form of a boat my parents kept in titusville
I remember living in central florida having that one year which was like 2004 with the 4 hurricanes that came through in one month....
Not sure if it's good or not but I remember my dad saying something about renters insurance being really fuckin cheap but really good coverage in case of your stuff being destroyed.

haha I live in Brevard County but I wasn't here in 04. I kinda want a cool hurricane to come through. Like a cat 2 or something. Not anything thats gonna do a lot of damage and devastation but enough for a good hurricane party and some jobs for the people around here. There's a lot of unemployed people.

I'm speaking about the East Coast, north of Florida. Florida always gets hit so I wasn't really speaking about them.

Cocoa right? I used to surf the pier there every weekend as a teenager. Meh cat 1's I think are better because you get to enjoy the plenty of rain, which I love watching as it comes down and secondly you still have power but it's night time all day so it's like 24 hour partying. What sucks is the clean up after a hurricane. Or worse the never ending argument that rich people get their power back before anyone else.

oh yeah, I forgot that Florida isn't generally considered part of the East Coast.
maybe a little clarification of your definition of the "east coast" coulda avoided confusion.
Yeah, the place that always gets hit. No reason to get input from those people

Melbourne actually, but close to Cocoa. I spend time in Cocoa Beach at least once a week. I usually surf the inlet, or 2nd light/tables.
