Anyone else get stuck in between awake and asleep? (hypnagogia)
    #12827766 -

Every night when I'm laying in bed trying to bed I get stuck in the hypnagogic state where I am somewhat awake and somewhat dreaming at the same time. So I am semi-conscious but being able to hear things and see images for about 10 minutes until I finally drift off into full dreaming.

Anyone else experience this?

I experience it, but as soon as I become aware of it happening I wake up completely.

I have been trying to figure out how to put people in this state ever since I saw a hypnotist show.

It was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. They would look like they were asleep or just really stoned and he had almost complete control over them.

Sleep paralysis

Humming, roaring, hissing, rushing, zapping, and buzzing noises are frequent in conjunction with sleep paralysis (SP). This happens when the REM atonia sets in sooner than usual, before the person is fully asleep, or persists longer than usual, after the person has (in other respects) fully awoken.

I get this.

It is terrifying.
I get it about 85% of the time I take a nap in the middle of the day (over-tired)
When not smoking cannabis, I get it ~5-15 times a month, with bouts of it occasionally (everyday for two weeks etc.)
As a child, I got the more overly-hallucinatory kind.
Now I get the powerful body vibrations and humming.
I attribute it to general anxiety.

It is my link to lucid dreaming.
It's the treacherous bridge I must cross to get to the state.
If I can relax and breath deep, I can rise out of my body.
But the vibrations and pressure can be too much.
Sometimes I can only stumble, sometimes I can fly.

I was just wondering if there would perhaps be a way to sink from this state directly in to a lucid dream. I have experiences some intense vibrations too but generally just auditory hallucinations and visuals. Do you perhaps have any tips on how to reach that state of being out of body or becoming lucid?

Only thing I can tell you is that I stopped
having the trip ones (for the most part), then
after years without much of them them I began
having the buzzing, pushing, pulling kind.

I really didn't know what lucid dreaming was.
One time I just decided to go with the flow.
(I usually struggle until I wake up)
Started doing meditative breathing, and I just
rose up out of my body! Only stumbled around
a bit, but it was very amazing!

I was visiting my dad, who's motorcycle was running
outside the window. I have heard constant and simple
noises can help get you there.

There is tons of info if you look into it though.

I love it when I'm waking up. I can still 'see' the dream, but I think with my waking mind. Pretty cool, really.

I have this problem where subconsciously I won't allow myself to sleep. When I start feeling like I'm about to fall asleep my brain start running again and it's back to square one, I won't let myself sleep for some reason and I think it's got something to do with my psychedelic use because I also cannot experience ego loss anymore, my mind won't let me no matter how fucked up I am, something just clicks in my brain. I have a serious case of insomnia because of this, sometimes I go up to 4 days with no sleep whatsoever, it's getting to the point that I have to stay up 2 days straight just to feel tired enough to actually sleep.

Dr :ronpaul: says to stop trying to treat the side-effects of big government and focus on the core issues. End the Federal Reserve/audit the gold reserves at Fort Knox, abolish the IRS, end all wars and occupancies, stop the building of an empire that will inevitably fail, and cut all unconstitutional federal programs. Put the power back in the peoples' hands by ending this nanny-state.

I first started experiencing hypnagogia when I was in a state of depression and was having anxiety driven thoughts that I was becoming a schziophrenic.

I interpretted the hypnagogia hallucinations as schizophrenia and that was pretty freaky.

Sometimes I'll "awake" in the middle of the night to find I was already awake.

It's interesting to say the least, some times the lack of quality sleep sucks though

The other week I popped some doxylamine to potentiate a regular dose of my codeine medication. After nodding off on my couch for a few minutes I snapped awake and saw a dog running around under my living room table. I don't have a dog. It was very strange, and dissipated after a few minutes.

Also one time I woke up to see a swarm of enormous bats flying out from under my bed.

Sometimes I hear a woman singing in an exotic language, as if in an adjacent room, as I'm drifting off to sleep.

That type of shit doesn't happen to me often, though.

I get this every time I take a nap during the day and I fucking hate it. I always end up having the most frustrating or horrifying dreams. For that reason I just don't take naps anymore.

I also get the same thing when I try to sleep on opiates, but it's a little bit more enjoyable.

I thought I was becoming schizophrenic on a really horrible MDMA comedown  No hypnagogia though.

Yeah it's called the Theta brainwave, it's the state of consciousness we spend the least amount of time in, but it's probably the most interesting.
