metal lids/ band-aids

I'm about to use some popcorn as a spawn substrate and have had trouble with air exchange. Is it okay to use metal canning lids with 3/8th inch holes in the top instead of plastic? Also are band-aids as good a filter patch as polyfill? thanks.

I use the little round bandaids over my holes in my lids.
They work great!

I tape up the holes with masking tape for pressure cooking the jars.
When I inoculate I put the round clear spot bandaids on the lids.

The clear spot bandaids are like 100 for $4.00

Even after P/Cing @ 17psi/2hrs! Plus the newer "foam" band aids are self sealing for inoculating with a syringe.WR
