Spiritual Retreats Around the World?

Anybody have experience of travelling to specific spiritual retreats or locations of true spiritual significance?

I want to do some travelling...  I would like to find a true Guru and spend some time..

They weren't really spiritual retreats, but I've been to places that other people consider to be imbued with some sort of spiritual power.:shrug: It's all the same to me.

I would want to see tree of death and tree of life. I don't remember where they are
but I've read plenty articles and heard on news about those.
Tree of death supposed to drain your energy, while tree of life give.

I second the vipassana suggestion.  It is guaranteed to be a significant experience.

The Sacred Healing Center does these kinds of retreats with sacred Medicines!
Last year some friends and I went on a retreat to Oaxaca deep in the mountains hosted by The Sacred Healing Center to a special location where the mushrooms naturally grow and are embraced by the locals. We participated in the 3-day meditation course and The sacred medicine ceremony (mushrooms were brewed into a delicious tasting tea) by a local shaman. The location is absolutely breathe taking and the experience was beyond life changing! I think one of the most memorable things about this trip was the fact that our cabin was literally on the side of the mountain and we would wake up to pure nature, beauty and an unbelievable view. Also, the food was AMAZING! If anyone is interested in a healing, introspective and overall life changing experience, I highly recommend it! They are having another retreat this August! I am going again with some friends! Also just so you know they only accept a select and limited number of individuals seeking the healing properties of the mushrooms and interests in participating in their meditation course. I stayed at Plum Village in France for 3 months. Its pretty amazing. Its a Mahayana Buddhist retreat, the guy who started it is called Thich Nhat Hanh. He moved to France after he was exiled from Vietnam for speaking out against the war.
