Download hijackthis and run it...Post the findings here

Something tells me its like a backdoor trojan or something thats turning it off. I'm not real familiar with peer guardian but I don't think that has anything to do with it.

thanks but no I really doubt peer guardian would do it either it's just an anti-peer to peer software.

Start here and take these suggestions that they give you. At the top it tells you what you can or cant remove. Or what is safe anyway. After you follow through there reboot and see if it still does it.

If so I see some other shit on there that they don't list because its an UNKNOWN file. I'm trying to decide what they are..Could be a virus running in the background under a fake name. But we'll start here.

One more thing, AVG is god awful...Look in to AVAST

I had to can AVG also because it caused all kinds of strange Virus like activity on my computer.  It would be a lot easier to get a handle on your computer if you didn't run 15,000 background programs.  You should figure out your essentials and only let memory load those.  then go and disable most of XP's worthless and security flawed services, I only run about 10 of the services all the rest are disabled and my computer is fully functional.

Yea if you know how to manage your services you can make a computer instantly about 3 times as fast

But not only that, AVG eats up system resources and it also missed things on my computer that I had to run Avast to fix. I don't get many problems with my computer because I keep such a close eye on things but you expect your virus scanner to catch things for you when you cant be there 24/7

So little did I know I was walking around with a virus for a few months

Fortunately no outgoing traffic is going to leave my computer without my consent so takes a little worry away

went to comodo firewall and their anti-virus and proactive defense.  nice, all in one that doesnt take a lot of memory and does its job.  Then I also run a Spybot S&D scan once a day.  no more problems.

well, umm...

Buy a big thumb drive and save your work.
Download software from www.malwarebytes.org install and run update.
Re-boot in safe mode and scan with malwarebytes.  Clean if required.
Re-boot.
In CMD run sfc /scannow.

But since you just formatted I dont guess backing your shit up is that important

Yeah, I already got everything on an external drive, as soon as I download something or need something important it automatically gets put in there.  I already have malware bytes so I guess I can give this a try.

hold down either f8 or f11 when your computer is booting. it will bring you to a boot screen and ask you to boot in safe mode

if its not one of those keys then it should say somewhere when its booting which key it is...i think ive seen it as f12 before but i cant remember
