death penalty

I personally feel that life without parole is a worse penalty.  They don't deserve to get off easily with a painless death.  They deserve to rot in a cage for the rest of their lives.

we shouldnt be made to support them, living in an all men's city where
sex and drugs are easy to come by... why spoil them, hell half of them
do something so they get sent back, it cant be that bad

It's because we're squeamish enough about death in this country to insist that any murder carried out in the name of the law be painless, instantaneous, and foolproof. "Humane." This necessitates an incredibly sophisticated and expensive medical procedure.

My understanding is that it's mostly about the costs of legal proceedings, appeals, delays, etcetera which inevitably go with a death sentence.
Yeah, the technology costs more than a bullet, but it's still way cheaper than keeping someone alive for a year.

BTW, to you people who say "death isn't good enough" etc, what the fuck is wrong with you?
Do you get hard hearing about some bastard's suffering?

IMO this whole "punishment" paradigm is some kind of unexamined sadistic reflex that we all ought to drop.

Crime is a problem, and problems have solutions.
Negative feedback (IE punishment) is one kind of solution, because it can modify behavior, but that is its only utility.
When you propose punishing someone not in order to alter their behavior, but merely for the sake of punishing them, you're involved in sadism.
Clearly, many of you feel that the people mentioned in the OP are terrible people who need to be removed from society.
But what do we get out of punishing them?
Only more bad vibes.

If you believe the death penalty is sometimes appropriate (personally, I do) then there's only one moral way to do it: quickly, cheaply, and without a lot of public attention.
Then, go back to your life with that problem solved.
Don't obsess over it, and don't give that horrible bastard one second more of your attention than is required.
When you want to "make them pay," that's just getting caught up in bad vibes and sadism.

It's not that I'm sadistic...

A life sentence is 10 times cheaper.  Why spend millions of dollars on appeals for this horrible person?  Appeals that will just cause the victims even more pain.  Knowing justice has been done can give some type of closure to the victim, but knowing that with every appeal, the person could get free...  It's just more suffering for the victims.

Not to mention people get life in prison for drug charges.  Life in prison is a much more severe punishment than a painless death.  Should drug offenders have more severe punishments than murderers?

According to this, it is cheaper to keep a prisoner in jail than it is to execute them.

http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/costs-death-penalty

I guess I'm pretty sadistic, because when someone is proven guilty of something like the story I've just finished reading, I could think of many more gruesome ways to torture the person.
So, I guess I'm cold blooded, because I believe in torture and violence to these kind of offenders.  They shall have no sympathy from me.

they factor in every detail about the individual case, the cost for
prosecution, appeals, adjusted construction costs of where ever the
execution is done, the actual cost of an execution isnt dick in
comparison to paying all that and supporting him into his golden years,
if it's $100k/yr to keep him in prison it could be 40 or more years
before he's dead... $4mil plus the additional for geriatric care after 55

you cannot possible convince me the $4mil+ is cheaper than what ever
chemicals they use for lethal injection, a bullet or a 30' of rope

Read this:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29552692/

It's not the cost of the lethal injection, it's the cost of keeping them in segregated cells, rather than in general population for 20+ years.  Plus the cost of all the appeals.  Legal fees for all the appeals are in the millions alone.

I'm not in convincing mode yet, I'm still in research mode.

People like these are the ones that should be taken out into the woods and shot, and when someone asks what happened to them, everyone would just shrug.

It would be cheaper.

Rope (to bind hands and feet): $3
2 gallons of gas (to drive 'em to the woods): $5.72
1 250g/.45 caliber center-fire Hollow point cowboy load: $0.60
Gauze pad, solvent and lubricant to clean gun: $0.20

Grand Total: $9.52

they dont have to keep them out of population, if they're stupid enough to
kill each other, more power to them, they've saved us millions, they
wouldnt get the 3 appeals at our expense, they're still juggling the
numbers to make one look so much more costly... eliminate their 3 appeals
on the public dime, if they lose the first appeal they are most likely
guilty, fry the fucker on the courthouse steps

the death penalty is also very effective... when it's used

Yes. Torture of a little boy deserves torture in my opinion. I'm a sick bastard, I guess.

I ask the very same question.  I mean, I've lived in the hood for a little while, I seen some guy bleeding all over the place from a gun shot wound once (we were the ones who called the medics-he lived) I've actually seen someone beaten to death in a parking lot too; guy literally jumped up and down on this dude's face, and generally, while these events made me sick at the time, things like that don't really fill me with the type of horror that I feel when I hear about stories like the ones in this post.  It's bone chilling.

My question is, who does that help?

One bullet, then go comfort the boy.
To me, that seems the only moral response.

The standard punishment for child murderers, torturers and child rapists should be getting strapped to a wire rack three feet over five or so baby bamboo shoots face down so they can watch them slowly and inevitable grow there way up to and through there chest :plot:

Sorry thats just the sadist in my but I think its justified in a case like this.

This.

Also, I think everyone is missing the point. HE DIDN'T HAVE TO DIE, BUT COURTS ALWAYS RULE IN FAVOR OF THE MOTHER FOR CUSTODY

Hello??? Anyone out there?

This shit happens all the time. Just because a father is even involved in a divorce, he MUST be a dead-beat no-good sonofabitch. So custody ALWAYS goes to the mother/mother's family. This kid could've stayed with his dad, but instead suffered a horrible death at the hands of his mother's boyfriend.
