Ethan Hawke blew it this morning
    #5585454 - 05/03/06 12:00 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I woke up at like 7 this morning. anyways i was watching Walker Texas Ranger but it was a repeat. So i check HBO and i see Ethan Hawke. Im thinking this guys a pretty good actor. Training Day was awesome, Assault on Precint 13 was badass, and Lord of War was good.

So I was expecting some kind of action movie. Thats not what i got. It was this movie called Before Sunset. They should call it "Ethan Hawke goes on a date" cause it was that bad.

Thats what it was. there was only 2 characters in the whole movie. some chick and him. And she was really annoying. She was some french chick who was pretty ugly... And the whole movie was them talking to each other in paris.

At one point there was this big menacing black guy in a red shirt behind them. I thought he was gonna attack him or something but no, nothing interesting happened whatsoever.

Set back his career like 10 years. I thought he was the next Mel Gibson or Bruce Willis meaning a great Actor but apparently not if he made this piece of shit....

Before Sunset was an awesome movie. It had some real dialogue wich can't be said for most movies. But you should have seen Before Sunrise first. That's about their first date. There are 9 years between the films and it also makes sense in movie time.

Its not his fault he was in a bad movie, all he has to work with is the script that is given to him. And by the way, i think 90% of Mel Gibson and Bruce Willis' movies are total generic-action-movie garbage. I hate that kind of shit. I can barely stand to watch an action movie anymore unless its actually original. Not to say theyre not good actors.

Bruce Willis was excellent in 12 Monkeys. I dunno, they usually just cast him to play himself :/

But yeah, Hitman, your tastes are pretty shallow. How do you know what a good actor is if you only like action movies?

I wouldn't consider Training Day an action movie. More a thiller/drama

I thought that movie was pretty good. It's actually the sequel to Before Sunrise, but i never saw that. Richard Linklater wrote and directed both of these. He tends to make movies that deal with real-life believable characters and situations, which i guess can be boring to some people. Before Sunset though reminded me a lot of Tape, almost like he was trying to remake that movie. But i found Tape to be pretty boring, mostly because the location never changed.

Here are other popular movies by Richard Linklater:
Dazed and Confused
Tape
Waking Life
Bad News Bears

He's also the man behind the upcoming movie A Scanner Darkly which looks to be fucking awesome.

Yeah so anyway, Ethan Hawke blew it 11 years ago when he starred in Before Sunrise.

You really should've watched Before Sunrise before Before Sunset (3x before in one sentence). It's really interesting how the characters change after the nine years between the movies. Linklater has made some cool films Waking Life in particular.

i really liked this movie but you have to be in a certine mind set to watch it i guess...
i wish i've seen the first movie first though (or at all)

linklater makes real good movies that make me think and it's much more then i can say about most movies i watch...
movies became pretty dogmatic for me about 6 years ago! i much prefer watching a weird scandineivien movie about a father going off to war and getting POWed then belived to be dead only to return and find out his wife is kicking it with his brother intense/drama/"provocative" movie then a fucking action movie about things that can never happen and people getting shot (like i've never seen THAT enough whenever i flick on the bloody TV)
so yeah... wathcing this film and even Tape was a refreshingly positive expiriance for me!

Its funny you mention this movie--I just saw it on television a few weeks ago....wasnt too thrilled with it but it was worth to just play in the bakround while I worked. Those 2 characters were the same ones from Waking LIfe--the couple laying in bed. I think they might be a couple but Im not gonan resarch to confirm that.
