What's a decent HDMI cable?
    #12604319 -

Ok, i don't know much about HDMI. I read up on wiki, bu tit's just technical jargon to me.

I'm getting a HDTV, and will need a cable for our PS3. The TV comes with 2 AV jacks. Will i even need the HDMI?

The TV is strictly for gaming and DVD's, no cable TV.

So wth do i buy? I know Best Buy will rape me if i go in there unprepared.

Thanks

If you use the AV jacks, you will be able to play dvd's just fine, but any game or blu-rays you want to watch will not be in HD. And that sort of defeats the purpose of buying an HDTV... So yes, you will need an HDMI cable.

Best buy will try to sell you the PS3 HDMI cable or something, don't buy it.

Get the cheapest HDMI you can find, no name brand, whatever.

They probably don't even stock cheap HDMI cables at bestbuy, so look around at surplus electronic stores or something like that...

Also, have fun with your new TV! HD is awesome.

I ordered this one when I bought my PS3. Works great. When HDMI first came out, the prices were outfuckingrageous. Not so much anymore.

This isn't really true.  Component cables can be used to provide resolutions up to 1080i.  Unless the TV you're buying has 1080p resolution (good chance that it does) there is no reason to buy an HDMI cable.

The reason to buy an hdmi cable is that its way less clutter.  As for cables, some cheap cables will fuck up your signal and your screen will go black randomly, I've seen it.  Go to monoprice for quality yet very cheap cables.  Personally I own a best buy brand one which works but is overpriced.  However I didn't want to wait and had disposable income.

The TV i got is an 1080p, so i definitely want this cable!

Now, wheres the damn PS3's???? We have money, can't find them online, or in town....

I was told your supposed to stay away from the I at the end, and stick to progressive resolutions as they look much better, or at least noticeably better.  Plus with component cables, you actually do have to buy quality cables for them, so in the end your better off with 1080p

I'd go for the HDMI hookup if your TV's got it, haven't found anywhere cheaper than www.monoprice.com

It does not need to gold, the signal is digital, not analogue.

Get a cheap one.
