Im a sucker for these kits it seems as today i was in another garden center with different kits 3 times the price(?16)
They had this one Golden oyster Pleurotus cornucopiae
and two others normal oysters and shiitake.
Had to buy at least 1 quite a good kit this one and i get to keep a pretty good bag filter to reuse on some new projects.

I'm fairly certain the "white mushroom" is agaricus bisporus

Why *IS* steak so expensive in the UK? I just bought a nice sirloin (on special) for US$2.50!
Good work.

ahhh organically grown, that explains it!
Pschonaut>>>> $2.50 for sirloin. and on "special"??? R ya fuckin mad LOL unless ur butchering the cow yaself, theres no way it could cost that cheap. i dont like the sounds of that word "special" in markets. How much did it weigh and was the marbling good...sometimes meat can "LOOK" good but could have been chemically treated so it doest get thrown as garbage. Their r alotta penny pinchers out there in the meat market. anywayz....can i come over for dinner psychonaut...suuuuure dam hungry for some T bone steaks LOL

After you clone and presumably spawn, what would you use as the substrate? I'm thinking of getting some spawn myself of Agagirus Bisphorus, but am unsure what they'd like to grow in. I'm thinking of some sort of casing. I'll have some home-made compost this summer, you think it would work? It's domestic ingredients compost btw.

woowwwwww, those r some beauuuuutiful pics there Ganja, thx for posting them!!!!
what substrate were those oysters grown on?
That first pic looks like some kinda exotic undersea seashell...they have a beautiful yellow cap to them! so how did u eat them? *in awwwww...*
that is also a very nice pic of that agar petri dish. Ive never worked with agar and to see what it's supposed to look like makes me go "wowwwww" thats some nice fuzz growing there, so is it suppose to cover the entire petri dish b4 u can start cutting it into pieces and inoculating sterilized grain with it? what kinda agar formulation did u use....PDA, MEA??? what specimen did that tissue come from, if i may ask??
srry for all the questions LOL

Cheers sbud the oysters are from a kit i bought so a little cheating lol but i belive there grown on sawdust.I cloned then onto Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) broth from boiling 150 grams sliced home grown potatoes in 500ml water for 30 minutes(add water to 500ml) 9 g agar agar flakes 10 ml local honey a friend collects 0.88 ml peroxide stired in when the mix cools to 130?f That Shiitake clone is from some i bought in the supermarket and took a tissue sample from the center. It stained the petri red and i though fuck a contam but then it seemed to sprout white and spread over the red.Its now halfway across the plate ill add another pic tomorrow.I think you are best to wait for full colanisation of the petri before any sectoring and tranplantation but i duno its my first ever i got a stack now 3 oysters(supermarket) 1 agaricus bisporus (From grow kit)1 Flammulina velutipes(picked locally)1 Shiitake(super market)3 P.Cubensis(F.s.r.e) all on that above agar recipe and all doing well. Please continue to ask questions it makes me think Ive only been growing since December so i ve still got a lot to learn Good hobbie this i wont to grow all the edibles i have on agar to fruiting so starting to prepare jars and bags(going to try bag culture for all the oysters) and dowels(for shiitake and oysters)So busy time
