Datura and Castaneda

I began reading Carlos Castaneda when I was a young teen, starting with "The Teachings of Don Juan", then "Tales of Power" (no drugs, but fascinating on dreaming)and various other books of his. I know it was revealed a while ago that these were not at all real accounts and more or less completely fictional. To me it makes little difference, his writing still holds its own.

In "Teachings" he speaks about three different medicines: Peyote, mushrooms, and Datura ROOT. From a cursory search I found no information on the root of the Datura. Was this completely fabricated?

Also, he speaks about smoking his mushroom preparation. I can't remember the Spanish term he used for the concoction. Is this possible? Somehow I don't think so as I'm pretty sure it would be mentioned somewhere.

I've had old redneck dudes from around here tell me you can smoke mushrooms. I'm pretty sure the active compounds in the shrooms would break down when burnt.

I think You can smoke them but most of the psilocybin breaks down you have to smoke a ton to get an effect which just leads to wasting mushrooms

The smoking mixture isn't just psilocybe mexicana, it's a blend of other herbs as well, for all we know there could be salvia in it, it was meant to be a secret smoking mixture. Little Humito, little smoke as don juan called it.

Of course there are roots for the datura plant, I haven't seen a plant that didn't ever have roots.

Regardless of whether or not if it's fact or fiction, there are still good messages in it, I wouldn't use it as a source for information about drugs though, use erowid for that.

BTW I wouldn't recommend datura to anyone, that is some dangerous stuff to get into.

I've experienced my fair share of datura trips (strictly the seeds and pods- raw or in tea)
and by all means, they are not to be trifled with carelessly..

In my opinion, it has the most potential by far to be a True Hallucinogen. There are a great deal of negative side effects involved though, and I don't believe without specific herbal knowledge (from Pagan/witchcraft or shamanistic rituals) of what other ingredients to add, and how to apply.. Typically this substance wasn't ingested, and rather was smeared over the body (or in the vagina/anus) to achieve activity. And was never used alone, it always had other herbs added..

As the the Little Smoke, there was mention of some dried flower(s?) added to the mixture(apparently for taste), as well as other herbs of psycho-activity.. All-together allowing the mushroom effect to be smoked without losing the compounds.. I also seem to recall it needing to be extremely hot, and burned very intensely.. but I may be mistaken..

I harvested some datura root once and my friend smoked it, he told me he started hallucinating a lot but I'm not sure if he was being honest. Anyways, from what I've read it's the most potent part by weight.

Was he smoking or eating the root? I might like to try it myself someday.

Castaneda is a fuck tard if you believe his fiction it almost makes me want to write a book thats totally horrible and retard that has totally incorrect but seemingly right information to the inexperienced ppl.

pretty much every fuck tard that thinks they are cool cause they do drugs or doing drugs would make them cool would  buy the  book like hot cakes.

with datura you really want leafs or flowers. seeds go wrong fast its way harder to know a proper does from seeds. unless your proper dose kills someone or lands them in a hospital

Wysefool - In the book he ate the root. I remember there being a lot of talk about male/female daturas and the method of finding the proper one. Pretty sure they boil the root forever too.[/DISCLAIMER: AS THEDUDENJ SO ELOQUENTLY POINTED OUT THIS IS ALL FICTION

I smoked a ground up liberty cap once and definitely felt effects, could have been placebo but the effects were there although quite light but it wasn't many libs.

He said they were pscilocybin in book 3 dunno about the rest. I don't see how anyone into psychs can not love casteneda there are some wicked concepts in those books.

edit- ps, that's awesome that Santa was mentioned on here at just the right time.. can explain the whole receiving gifts thing, and flying reindeer, but I still dont get where the milk and chocolate cookies come from.. (and how come Santa comes on Christ's Mass?- though the Christmas tree/Axis mundi thing might have something to do with it? :o)

double edit- I wonder if any myths came about from this? :o

Datura seeds fuck you up more than anything else I know.  They are impossible to dose correctly but...  5 or 6 seeds are safe and a really good antidote for the mescaline pukes.  Very good anti-emetic action, just don't take more than 5 or 6.
