Eating my words. Frankie's movement was really impressive and really kept him in the fight the entire way. Very close fight, but I'm LOLing @ whoever scored that fight 50-45 for Frankie, can't be serious. BJ looked more damaged but he landed the bigger shots and without a doubt won the first 2 rounds. 3 and 4 were really close, and Frankie won the 5th.  The judging of this bout was horrendous.

Penn's takedown defense was great as expected, defending like 19/20 easily, and managing to stand back up within seconds when Frankie did manage to get the 1 takedown. Penn's jab was very effective, particularly in the first 3 rounds but Frankie was staying right in there the whole way and eventually tiring BJ out. I'll have to see the fight metrics to see for sure how close the fight was. Makes you wonder who will get the next title shot, Maynard has already beaten him and he was probably next in line. Will they do that rematch, or will BJ get an immediate rematch?

and LOL @ Anderson Silva clowning Maia for 5 rounds. I'm curious to know if he was really tired in the final rounds and that's why he didn't attack. Very strange fight.

LOOK at the Machida/Shogun fight then Penn/Edgar.  How in the FUCK did Edgar win?  I thought the judges showed more bias toward the champ, as in you have to win that belt and not just barely land a punch more or get one shitty take-down that lead to jack shit.

I was disappointed that it even went to decision but everyone in the room with me was AMAZED Penn lost his belt.  I did not think that was a valid decision, and like the poster before me.. even if Penn did lose the scoring was so fucked it isn't even funny.

Just watched the Penn vs. Edgar fight now.  I see EXACTLY why Frank Edgar won.  For whoever made the comparison, this was not anything like Machida vs Shogun.  Edgar was by and large the aggressor with many take down attempts (two successes), effective striking and head movement, etc.  He essentially neutralized or avoided BJ Penn's strengths without taking much damage.  ie: He really went for the title.

I agree with you. Edgar was usually the one initiating the exchanges, as well as going for takedowns and I think that made the difference. Penn was quite passive, only looking for the counter.

And just watched the Silva vs. Maia... I've lost a lot of respect for Silva.  His arrogance has been inflating since his second fight with Rich Franklin.

He's clearly an incredible fighter, but so much of his style is a head game.  I don't see why there are such declarations of him being the best.

So winning fights does not define a fighter? It does to me. Maybe not 100% but a very large percent. Who they fight, who they beat, and who they don't fight.

I think a fighter is defined by how they fight rather than a W or L.  Some fighters simply aren't pushed, and some fighters have victories that really aren't that impressive.  I personally find several of Silva's wins to be relatively unimpressive.  In several of his recent fights, I feel like I've seen several holes in his game exposed.

I'll believe it when I see it. What I've seen is a fighter fantastic with strikes and brilliant at avoiding strikes and a rock solid ground game that he rarely needs.
