I'm not sure this is really for the pub,buuuuut

I'm graduating this May, and I want to start sending out my resumes to some companies over the internet and through career fairs. Im wondering if anyone has had some good success with internet job search boards like monster or what ever. And if so, did you have a different resume to email vs one that you hand over to a real professional?

and also if you have any nice techniques for cover letters, please feel free to PM

If it helps, I have a major in Operations management (business) with a minor in Management for sustainability (from a top green school in the nation)

I am also certified with some computer programs, and certified ethics organizer.

Let the firm know why  you're not the same person as the other 10,000 applications they're getting.

Internet job sites are overwhelmed with job seekers right now - slim chances of acquiring something through there -- most resumes only get viewed for <5 seconds or something crazy like that.  Make your shit pop if you pursue those means.

I'd use the online job listings from local & regional newspapers.  Also, look up firms that hire your career-type in the area and seek out their job openings.

You gotta really do work to get a job right now.  I graduated last december (with a super-chron resume) and had to go back to school after not landing anything taht I wanted.

Like most, things in the modern world, lots of applications are entirely electronic.  Thus, it's likely you'll be applying to jobs without ever even handing someone a physical resume.

I would draft a single resume/CV.  Make it VERY simple.  Many job sites and individual companies have their own, unique systems for importing and handling electronic resumes.  Thus, if you have any sort of graphics, spaces, changed margins, unique symbols etc.  They will get entirely screwed up in their formatting when they are transferred, transformed or whatever to fit a specific format.

Know the specific keywords, buzzwords for your area.  Lots of places will scan electronically.

For cover letters, the trick it to make it look like it's unique to the position (and not a masss produced, generic cover letter).  Two paragrpahs should have information that is relevant to each and every job describing your strenghts.  Tailor the intro and final paragraph to each specific position.

Success can be had online.  I've gotten hits from a few online job places in the last year.

Thats also one thing im worried about. I dont want to have to go back to school. I do have the option to go to Grad school, I have the grades and recommendations, but I dont really want to continue school for another 3-4 years.

I know the job market sucks, but I'm great at selling my self in a face to face situation, but those opportunities dont arise that often.

thanks for the tips. Maybe i should throw some photoshop skills into it to make it "pop", or could you imagine a flash animation resume.
