Stick with the PF methods. Kits are notorius for being worthless. About the only one that I have heard of that would work is from the sporechicks. Mind you it is basically the pf method...go figger

Definatly stick with the PF Tek. I swear, I just birthed 3 cakes and it's as easy as falling down.

As for kits. I spent $8 for a fish tank from the thrift store, spent a fey bux for the glass lid, some caulking, some clorox spray, 24 jars, peralite, verm, rice flower, and of course PF inoculant...sum total? Way less than $200

Good luck!

Yeah,
definitely make your own. Stay away from kits. You'll be more pleased and ya might even feel a little pride in making it yourself. I know that a 20 gallon glass tank, a plexi glass lid, some perlite, jars, and substrate mix (brown rice flour and vermiculite) will cost about, maybe even a little under $100. So ...for what it's worth, I'd say make your own:-)

If you do go with a kit. Get the one from sporechicks. It is well worth the $90 if you have it. I got 8lbs wet by just following the step by step directions.

Just makes everything so much easier. No measuring no guessing etc.

DON'T BUY A KIT!!!
I brought the soul food machine way before I found this web page to be honest I spent over 300 bucks for my kit (hepa filter kit pressure cooker I even got a heater though i don't use it...well only if i get cold!)then I found this web page and i went back out and got everything for pf mmgg tek (perlite vermeculite and brf) I'm using only the buble-gum like container as my terranium. The highest temp that the heater they sent me is at about 78 degress I knocked up 6 jars 3 of them are day's away from being totally colonized the other 3 are coming along much slower. We will see what happens but I better have some shrooms out of this or I'll be highly pissed...BELIEVE THIS WEB PAGE!!!
DON'T BUY A KIT!!!!

I bought one from sporemagic. It looks like it might work. I just have had a feeling in my gut since I got it that it is not going to work. Now I'm just going to probably do my own stuff. I innoculated 4 jars each with about 3-4 ccs. This is excessive, but since I was a newbie I figured it was better to do that. Its been about a week and I threw one out. The other 3 have not done anything. I would not buy the kit anymore. Just spores online.
