Freeze precipitation

after freeze precipitating and pouring off the naphtha, the white-colored crystals and small amount of remaining VM&P naphtha was fan-dried. white crystals had formed perfectly but the glass felt sticky and had a clear residue. should the glass jar be sticky? is this naphtha residue? what do?

it's probably un- crystallized dmt. put it back in the freezer and recrystallize for longer and filter better.

i took the jar out of the freezer with lots of white crystals on the bottom, poured off the naphtha, and evaporated down the remaining liquid. decided to recrystallize with fresh hot solvent, which re-dissolved the crystals. put the jar back in the freezer. two days later: no crystals. how could this happen? it crystallized in one day the first time around, how could what i did affect the precipitation time?

it wasn't saturated when you tried to crystallize the second time. the naphtha/dmt mix has to be murky (murky means there is an acceptable ratio of dmt to naphtha for recrystallization)  before you try to crystallize.

instead of pouring it off, you should poor the shit (with the crystals) through a coffee filter. whats left in the filter should be put by a window until it's all dry. the liquid that went through the filter should be reduced, until murky, and recrystallized.
