Zulu Warriors: cannabis snuffs & small red mushrooms

Tonight on UK satellite TV there was a program investigating a famous defeat of the British army by Zulu Warriors. The British army were heavily armed with rifles and the warriors only had spires and clubs. It was thought that the defeat was a direct result of the mental state of the warriors. If was found that the warriors had used cannabis snuffs and a small red mushroom (unnamed) to induce a crazed state. This mushroom was said to be a hallucinogenic, but also poisonus. Warriors who took this mushroom, were not expected to live through the fight but would kill many solders before being killed them self?s.

Does anyone have any further information about Zulu Warriors using this red mushroom and have any ideas about the name of this mushroom?

I saw this progra on discovery channel I think. pretty cool!
They said they couldn't give the name of the mushroom, but they said it contained muscimol wich is somthing you find in amanitas. maybe they used amanita Muscaria. just a thought.

Yeah I've seen that before..very interesting! I'm pretty sure the mushroom was amanita muscaria.

Cannabis snuffs? THC isn't soluble in water, so it can't be absorbed through the mucous membranes of the nose. You can't snort pot...

did you also see the test that they did in that program with 2 martial arts fighters, first they let them fight without anny drugs and record the speeds and such things. then one gets an placebo and the other one gets the active compound from those red mushrooms. it seemd that the person who had the active drug moved faster, could anticipate faster, he was just better in everything.

Yep, I saw that as well, bloody interesting, I liked the experiment with the two martial artists! The guy who had the Amanita Muscaria kicked ass!

Not sure what it was called, but I think it was on the National Geographic channel. It's been on before, so it's bound to be on again soon.

Damn I missed it,
And it sounds so intresting!
I bet the mushrooms were infact aminta muscaira because I have read many many times that when eaten they produce a state of extreme strength as well as the tripping part,I heard people say they felt like a hundred times as strong after eating them.

It said the chemical was contained in fly agaric not amanita muscaria

great link... really informative, ive read the same thing about muscarias, but never seen any real science to back it up... its funny that they call THC a 'powerful hallucinogen' seems even the scientists and historians these days are ignorant... anyone ever see the film Zulu? if not, check it out... its kindof a buddy flick, but a pretty accurate portrayal nonetheless...

Fly agaric is the common name for Amanita Muscaria, they are the same thing.

I am glad many of you also found it very interesting.
I am sill not sure what type of mushroom they used, a SMALL red mushroom

in Africa. Its not Amanita Muscaria!.
