The torque rating of the motor is not the force required to turn the shaft, but rather the torque output when driven with some particular value of current.

Conversely, the motor can spin as freely as you want when it's not generating electricity (the circuit is open), but as soon as you complete the circuit and put a load on it (the battery), it begins to require at least as much power to turn it as you are storing in the battery (in practice, much more power is required.)

I never said anything about where energy does or does not flow.  It's not energy flowing back into the motor which makes it harder to turn, it's a locally-created force.  The current induced in the motor's coils by the rotating magnets creates its own magnetic field which is opposite to the one generating the current.  This manifests as a resistance to turning which is proportional in strength to the current being generated and therefore to the power being stored.
