I want to move to Portland, Oregon from Michigan.

Sup guys,

So i am currently in my freshman year of college at my local CC. I have been starting to weigh out my risks and benefits of moving out of state. I have looked at a lot of places around the country and the city i keep coming back to is Portland.

My art proffesor lived there and told me Its a lot like the city i live in now (Grand Rapids, Michigan). And that the people there are actually cool, not like GR.

I plan on moving out there in the summer sometime after i have found a job there and an apartment to rent. I have money saved up and in the process of saving now.

Another reason i am leaving is the weather, i love the summer in Michigan but the winter is wearing on me, if any of you know how the weather is around there i would love to know.

Anyways, I would like to hear some advice or your thoughts on this, Because i know that all of you or most of you havethought of doing the same thing.

hahaha im from GR and im looking to move to NORCAL/Oregon too.

You pretty much hit it on the head, nice summers(cept for last year), shitty winters

in portland, winter is pretty much overcast if not rainy with snow maybe a few times every year. summer is relatively mild with a couple weeks getting pretty hot.

I'm moving into Michigan from Alaska this summer. I'm excited everything is so close you can just take a train. Toronto Canada is only 3 hours out!

Michigan is a pain in the ass sometimes. Its beautiful and ive lived here my entire life, but i need a change in my life and i want to find new places in this country.

Haha I feel you 100%. I live in Alaska as of now and it is by far one of the greatest places to live. It's absoloutely gorgeous here all the time. But I'm 19 now and its time for me to get out for a while. See the rest of the country/world. The thing that sucks up here is that were so isolated from everyone else. It can get to be a VERY small town. I can't wait to explore the entire east coast!

honestly you will love michigan is you like alaska. The summers and falls are the best, lots going on and beautiful sights. Check out the great lakes etc.

What part are you moving to?? Southeast Michigan has everything you
need. But Im done with it here.

i fucking hate michigan

i live in metro detroit

its literally hell.  it can be beautiful, but its not worth the depressing winters :frown:

and the economy is fucking shit.

I love the Portland, OR area.  The winters are kinda long and wet.  The season lasts from mid October to March or April.  It is just now starting to warm up.  There is not a lot of snow at all, just rain not so much as Seattle though.  The summers are beautiful though greenery everywhere.  The people are great in my opinion as well.  The music scene is awesome and there is a hell of a night life.  The weed is killer too, not to mention the mushroom season.  If you have kids you might want to consider Vancouver as Oregon schools suck.  If you are planning on going to a community college over here I would recommend Clackamas Community College, a really great school.
