I've been in the army. I got out honorably and unfortunately they sent me a letter 2 years later saying they didn't like me being a civilian haha.

To be honest, I don't necessarily support our government, the war, or anything like that but I've always wanted to be a soldier and experience battle.  Honestly, I don't mind violence and I know I could handle killing people if it came to it.  I think that war would provide life lessons nothing else would be able to give you.  I also feel like I'm the type person who could handle these lessons and integrate them into my personal life.

So you don't support the government or these wars. But you want to go to battle and kill people? War would provide you lessons? What kinda lessons is that? What are you gonna tell your future employer? Your a one legged guy that enjoys killing people if he has to? Your in college man your gonna give that up to go in military to go to war?

I'm not gonna lie when I joined I was a little turd of an 18 year old punk. No way I was going to college or anything. The military def has its benefits the government pretty much pays me to go to school, I got a shitload of free health care from the Va, which is sick they even gave me suboxone lol.

Just remember it all comes at a price. Once you sign they own you and by own you I mean they fucking own you for 8 years. Just my 2 cents if your def set and have any questions about enlisting man feel free to PM me with any. Are you set on the Army? I def would go any branch but the Army. I was lucky and got stationed in Germany for a bit but not without spending most time in the field before deploying. The army doesn't have to many badass places to get stationed.

If you want combat go marines IMO. You do 6 month or so tours compared to the 1 year army. Maybe get on a boat get to go somewhere cool I see things with marines all over the world. Going to the Philippines would beat the shit outta getting station in Kansas in the Army. Navy has gay ass uniforms but I had to go to a Navy hospital and the nurse was talking to me about how she going to Key west next.

Anyways Good luck man I wish you luck with whatever Way you go. By the way no one wants to kill people or go to battle that's been to battle and its not always the "Insurgent" who dies.

But, has anyone been through this particular process and if you have what did you pay for it?

I did it myself

How??

I called the GBI in regards to a rifle I was told I couldnt buy because
a felony was showing up on my record from years earlier, I went to the
courthouse got a copy of what they had which was no more than an arrest
and asked that it be removed since there was no adjudication

they did it and everyone was happy

So wait, you just went to the court house and asked them to remove it and they did?  Call me stupid but define no adjudication.  Does that mean that you were arrested and booked on said charge, but it was dropped before you were convicted?

I'm sorry, but I am going to see Shutter Island with my gf and don't have time to type up the multitude of shitty aspects about being government property.  Well maybe one.  You give up rights normally guaranteed to you as a US national.  PM me and I will try to get back to you in more detail if you are interested.  Whatever way you go, I hope you enjoy it!

i've looked into it with my lawyer for friends here in Texas, and he said it would most likely run 500 to 1500 bucks for felonies...and to expect it to cost more rather than less.

good luck man.

it's the state crime bureau that has to remove it, I was convicted but
there's no record of the conviction so essentially it was no more than
an arrest/charges appearing on the record

the states crime offices can inform you of what needs to be done to
have it removed, you dont have to go through lawyers and all that

Ah cool, good to hear.  I'll go by the court offices tomorrow and have them tell me where I should start because frankly I have no idea.  I haven't dealt all that much with my state's criminal offices before

:dudewtf:

People go to war because they want to serve their country, generally battles are the part they don't like. That's why it's considered such a sacrifice. Everyone who's been there agrees, war sucks.

Also, it's a personal choice that involves ending other peoples' lives.

Hate what the government (ab)uses our soldiers for, don't hate the soldiers for supporting their country. Regardless of the cause, they don't call the shots, start the wars, etc. They follow orders and some families pay a very, very big price.

Have some fucking respect.

So, we're supposed to respect them because they brainlessly follow orders?

If I should have some fucking respect, they should have some fucking intelligence, and not ruin their own lives simply to become pawns of the government.

  That's why I said it was a personal choice.  Of course my personal choices and ideals are probably a tad bit different than yours.  Ending peoples lives and potentially ending mine doesn't bother me much.  Like I said, I feel like i'm wired to be a soldier.

I missed this post for some reason but yeah, I've been running through a lot of scenarios and possible ways a stint in the service would alter me.  The camaraderie of the service is what interests me most.  The bond fellow servicemen share with each other is unbeatable.  You literally put your life and trust in the hands of others and others do the same for you.  It's the ultimate bond and sacrifice IMO.  I'm really shooting for any branch subtract the Navy honestly.  Boats and ships make me extremely uneasy.  I would imagine being stationed on a boat somewhere in a sea would make me one anxious mother fucker.  The marines is my top choice, followed by the Air Force, then the Army and then the Navy.  The Coast Guard and National Guard are my last choices but honestly I would enlist in any branch, the Navy included.

Call it whatever you want, it's the path I want to take in life right now.  Why do you insist on coming in here and being so negative about this?  It's not your choice and frankly it's not needed.  You aren't swaying my opinion on the matter at all and you won't.  If anything it's kind of irritating to defend myself to people who don't understand my decision.  Back off bro.

I'm not a fucking sociopath, either.  I'm not going to walk in my school and gun half the student population down.  I'm not going to snap on a guy in a bar and beat him lifeless.  I'm not some mindless, violent idiot who's unstable.  I'm just the type person that when put in a life and death situation I will not think twice about ending someones life if it means saving my own or someone close to me.

Killing you or anyone else for that matter is no thing what so ever to me if I feel like it's needed.

Hey man, I understand that.  I know i'm definitely a minority.  I know my lack of respect for human life isn't something most people have but at the same time like I said in my post above I don't think i'm a sociopath, at least not the type that puts innocent people in danger.

That's what makes a good soldier. Do you want guys in your squad thinking, "Maybe I'll just go do this instead" and end up getting you all killed?

QFT [un]fortunately, depending how you look at it.

Yeah, fuck all those idiots in the history of the United States military for serving this country.

No one that I personally know signed his or her entire life over to the government and had it ruined. Please elaborate your viewpoint on how everyone who goes to war comes back "ruined". If you're going to say "everyone", I'd like to see some cited sources that say 100.00% with a margin of +/- 0.00%.
