Anyone notice in the Grateful Dead movie that they were tripping (or at least it looked like Weir was) while on stage in the beginning, after the intense mindfuck of a beginning of course. The way Weir sings and everything on that first song just made me think he was dosed very strongly.

Which brings me to the next conclusion of why people say they sound so horrible...maybe it's because they were tripping half the time on stage and had to improvise quite a bit. The Beatles probably couldn't have even done half the shit the dead were doing while tripping.

His pupils are HUGE though.

i remember reading the dead didn't really like to trip while performing after a certain point because they wanted to give the best performance possible. that was probably sometime in the late 60's.  it seems to be a special occasion thing like the mescaline show (if it's true.. i've always liked to believe it)

Pillow linked a show a while back in which the Dead were supposed to have taken a really big dose of LSD before the show.  I guess Bobby didn't though, now after reading this thread.

Seriously? There were A LOT of shows were they straight up sucked which leads me to believe they were tripping face, personally I can listen to it because I love the dead no matter how bad they are playing.

But if they did trip while playing I definitely got a greater respect for them no matter how bad they were, that is one hard thing to do while tripping, I couldn't stand being in front of thousands of people tripping bawls trying to make music.
