sushi question

alright, here's a question for the sushi fans out there. I often eat sushi because its delicious and healthy. I find that when i eat really good quality sashimi(sliced raw fish) at decent establishments, i get a great euphoria that lasts for hours and is similar to the feeling of a "runners high". I know theres gotta be some type of crazy-good reaction going on. question: what is that reaction?
I should add, i could eat california rolls and cucumber rolls all day and not feel this feeling. it definately is exclusive to raw fish. it's the ultimate food indulgence for me. I have a bunch of sashimi in the fridge right now, a combination of red snapper, salmon, tuna, and albacore. i also swung by the liquor store on the way home from purchasing the food and grabbed a little personal bottle of jack. A nice compliment to a wonderous feast.

I've heard that there's feel-good compounds in the seaweed

wow, i dont know how you can drink jack with sashimi. although.. i dont know how anyone drinks jack at all.. id need to have something lighter than that. sake is awesome.

i know exactly what feeling youre talking about but i dont know what the deal is. :shrug:

probably the high quality raw omega-3s making you feel good.
sashimi is the stuff! been a while since I've had it, maybe that needs to be remedied! :yesnod:

That euphoria rush feeling is probably a result of eating crap food all the time and all of a sudden eating something super healthy.
If you eat live foods all the time, you feel like that most of the time or so I hear.
Getting a nice dose of omega-3s and all those feel good brain vitamins. sushi rules.

i agree, sake is awesome. i dont drink the jack with the sashimi, that would be horrendous. As i'm winding down from my sushi buzz, i like to sip liquor of some kind. im not a regular drinker and would have prefered scotch, but the closest they had was whiskey and the best whiskey they had was jack. light tea is my drink of choice with sushi.

i wish i could feel like that all the time...you might be right about the crap food part as that is what accounts for 90% of my diet. i gotta start thinking about what i eat!

...but i'm unsure as to what actually causes it.  i googled it and saw nothing directly related.  maybe yeah the EFA's...:shrug:

If you like the sashimi, maybe it's a mercury buzz.  Some of the bigger fish can carry lots of it and doctors even caution pregnant women not to eat too much fatty tuna etc.

I usually just eat tenpura and octopus rolls (not so healthy being deep fried and with all of the mayonnaise) and edamame, but sushi restaurants do tend to leave me feeling healthily full, somehow.

By the time you actually consciously 'feel a buzz' as a result of mercury poisoning, it'd be a good idea to reserve a nice plot at your local cemetery.
