yea, i wouldve just bumped the other thread if i were you. i havent seen it.

but yeah, i think drumming is really therapeutic. i got a djembe a few months ago and i love it. havent brought it to a drum circle yet though.

i'm considering doing grad school for musical therapy with drumming, but that's one of a few options.

if you're looking into buying one, check out musiciansfriend.com, they're much cheaper on there than anywhere else. i got a 14" with a case for $120

Drum circles rock. There are a few forms of drum circles. There is meditation guided drumming, there is West African drumming, there is Native American drumming, there is non specific campfire drumming, Latin marching band style as well.

You really need to play with people, the practice you get on your own makes you unique, the beats you pick up while playing with others helps you flow.

keep your drum away from direct sunlight, and away from damp stuff. If you play outside at night, expect the head to loosen. It helps to have a fire near where you can use the heat to tighten the drum skin.

I think thats part of why drummers form circles around fires. Well among many other reasons.

As for therapy, I think music has a large potential for healing the mind and body, just like music can also poison it with it.

Meditative drum circles, are cool. They and you all get on the same clearheaded level, through breathing techniques, chanting, and various other things. Usually with a single drum that is set at a heart beat. The leader then leads the people through the drumming session, singing songs, giving people a beat to fallow. The people all just groove and pretty much go on a trip of fallow the leader. Afterwords you got a surreal peaceful feeling, pretty cool!

well shipping is free, and 14" is a pretty big drum. most people get 12" djembes which cost 100 bucks on that site, depending on the drum. i've shopped around for em, and i'd like to support local djembe sellers, but their prices are significantly higher (around me atleast), as in, atleast 100 bucks more than you can get em for on that site.

Did you ever end up doing some drumming?? for therapy?

Also thats another reason I didn't bump it, I didn't know if you wanted to go through some discussion about therapy or what you needed at the time, again.

i worked all sunday night unto monday morning. when i was getting off of work my friend had been up all night partying. so we met up and partied all day. i needed something to relax, so we rode our bikes to golden gate park to hippie hill for the drum circle. i feel high everytime i sit on that hill, even sober. the sun was out all day, btw, i didnt see any mushrooms of any kind

ah yes hippy hil is theriputic by itself. i love when that drum circle get cookin! :laugh:

as fomy therapist. he was a sort of psudo shaman therapist freind kind of deal. really cool guy wo helped me a great deal in one of the hardest times of my life. but in the end he was to expenive to keep going to. i only saw him like 6 times, and i only went to one drum circle with him at a interfaith church. it was all was done very in a very tribal native american fassion.
he actualy called me a few months ago and asked if i wanted to go to another but sadly i was in orgon at the time i really shoulg go give hima a visit just to thank him and talk to him for a few.

at least you guys have the option of a drum circle. Im chillin in kansas playin drums in a solo circle....so i guess its more of a point or dot than a circle. still very therapeutic.
