    #11756270 -

I would put about 2/3 of that into silver coins.

If you are a risk taker find a bookie and bet it on a team you like or play some high stakes poker. Highest turn around for a short term investment that I know of.

Go big or go home.

If you are going to need this money to 100% still be all there in 18 mos

NZ/Aussie Term Deposit - hedge currency risk with fwd exhange contract - should be around 5%

I thought about getting into the market - but that would require setting up a brokerage account, doing the necessary research, etc.etc.  Unless there is an extremely easy (with good terms) online brokerage place I could go through that is easy to use/understand -- i'd like to shy away from things I do not feel I know much about.

Iam heavily considering this.  Not only because of PMs obvious inverse relationship with the strength of the dollar(and by extension, the global economy), but because of impending inflation and all that jazz.

However, with the economy having already taken such a dip, and things starting to level off (and, may I say it, rise slowly), I wonder how much higher silver has to climb.  With the ted spread falling back to normal pre-crisis levels, showing banks are viewing each other as viable, I just want to be sure I don't hop on the PM train as it's comin' down the mountain.

I am going to definitely NEED this money in ~18mo, so this seems like a decent option.  I'm not sure exactly what you recommended though

I personally use Trade King as my brokerage. I see them as a new, no BS brokerage. Very happy with them. Free real-time quotes etc. $4.95 trade fees.

Also, if you want to be more "involved" with your money, you could play in options. But thats not my field of "expertise". My friend makes decent money trading currencies, but you have to play on technicals and graphs. Much more different than stock and its open 24 hours a day, 6 days a week.

Agreed. I am considering this as well. And now, or with a week or two, might be the best time...

All of the following stats are from this site www.kitcosilver.com

Well, for the past five years silver has been in a general up trend, peaking at 20.79 back in the first half of '08.

2009; silver peaked at 19.21, about a month ago, and since it has fallen to 16.75, and "closed" at 16.85 on new years day.

Over 2009 silver exhibits a pattern of peaking, dropping, then climbing to a new high. It did this several times over 2009. Based solely on this, my guess is that it will hover around 16-17 for a bit, and then begin to climb up again.

So,

I have more reading to do before I make my decision.

Hahaha, i'm not inherently against PMs or anything - just don't see them as a feasible medium of exchange for our modern world.  I dont know of any local coin shopps - ill have to find a yellow pages.

Holy shit silver took off. I didn't know there was so much daily volatility in commodities!

I still personally prefer my stocks. I have a friend that trades forex daily. He's grown a strategy that's so far 70% win 30% lose. He's also very...careful... so to speak. In other words he never aims high. His goal is to make 300 pips a month. He gets it or pretty close every month now.. Been almost a year.

I might start trading options here soon enough.

As for your $7500, I would back the stock market ANY DAY.

18 months + very safe investments....? Hmmm.. I would suggest sticking to large caps. (JPM) I would bet chase does swell this year. Supposed to raise dividends.

Safe investment? (JNJ) I can promise you it won't be lower than it's current price at the end of the year. ($64.68)

If you do decide to invest in the stock market, REINVEST DIVIDENDS! That is a VERY important part of becoming "rich" or "wealthy".

One mid cap that I've been following for a while is UVE. It's an insurance company based in Florida that's expanding it's operations west. From what I've read Florida is a TOUGH insurance market. Even the large caps stay away from it. They've been able to stay quite profitable however through investments. Their cash flow is good and they pay dividends. (I'm a big dividend guy - Dividends beat my meat) They just hit the $6 point again and are expected to rise into the $6.50ish. Don't be surprised if they break $7 or even 7.50 by year end. This is definitely my long term cash cow.. Or my "get rich quick" scheme. Quick equaling 2 years minimum, but I doubt that will happen. ;0)

I was supposed to end this reply a long time ago, but ONE more....

(CAG) Con-Agra foods. They are the makers of Chef Boy R Dee, Banquet, Healthy Choice, and Andy Capps hot fries (which are the SHIT mind you) among MANY other products!! GREAT dividend paying stock, but don't expect a HUGE percentage return. I'd put ALL 7500 into CAG if I were you.
http://www.conagrafoods.com/

Maybe $1500 into UVE with LONG term expectations and $6000 into CAG for  your 18 month wait. Also, if you buy into CAG BEFORE 01/26/09, you'll get their little $0.20 dividend payout.

I need to end this reply! lol.. 6k vested at 23.10 per share = 259 shares. Now you at least sit on it through the end of the month, and you'll have yourself $51.80 in dividends. Which re-vested will buy you roughly 1.7416 shares @ an estimated price of $24 per share.

This will continue on until you sell. Every three months, they will pay your dividends and as long as you have them getting re-vested, you'll be a happy man when the 18 months comes along. Remember though... This is a dividend strategy. Although I also seek capital gain, I'm satisfied with a good steady dividend payout. The current annual yield is 3.76%. They will MOST LIKELY be raising their dividends at the end of the year for the last payout. That's how ALL good dividend payers use their dividends to attract "new" investors.

So there you have it. That's what I would do personally.

P.S. *reinvest those dividends!*

18 mo CD with Allybank.com @ 1.73 (APR) will earn you about $197.00 over the term of the CD. You can look into No-penalty CD's as well, if you think you might need it. The rates are about the same, but are shorter terms, which you can roll over.

I personally have a few CD's that we locked in at %2.05 for a 9mo no penalty rate, expecting a rate increase by now...

He could probably make just as much at a casino, or find the money just laying on the ground. That isn't the point. If you want a higher return, you have to take on more risk. NO matter what anyone tells you, return and risk will always be inversely correlated.

He stated he needed the money 18 months from now. Depending on how static that timeframe is and what the principal requirements will be 18 months from now, the lowest risk would be an 18 Mo. CD that is FDIC insured. He may be able to explore some intermediate bond indexes (such as SAMIX) where the share price doesn't change more than a penny or two a day (both ways) and trends upward generally, depending on his risk-tolerance with this principal.

Remember it's as easy to pick a winner as it is to pick a loser, especially with day-trading. A year give or take a bit ago, a lot of day traders (and nearly anyone with any market exposure) got burned, it's a valuable lesson to learn. Those with the capital swooped in and bought great companies at incredible prices, because people freaked out. People were over-leveraged, out-margined, or just undisciplined and needed to cover or minimize their loses.
