Monsanto GMO corn linked to organ failure
    #11825231 -

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/01/12/monsantos-gmo-corn-linked_n_420365.html

In a study released by the International Journal of Biological Sciences, analyzing the effects of genetically modified foods on mammalian health, researchers found that agricultural giant Monsanto's GM corn is linked to organ damage in rats.

According to the study, which was summarized by Adam Shake at Twilight Earth, "Three varieties of Monsanto's GM corn - Mon 863, insecticide-producing Mon 810, and Roundup® herbicide-absorbing NK 603 - were approved for consumption by US, European and several other national food safety authorities."

Monsanto gathered its own crude statistical data after conducting a 90-day study, even though chronic problems can rarely be found after 90 days, and concluded that the corn was safe for consumption. The stamp of approval may have been premature, however.

In the conclusion of the IJBS study, researchers wrote:

"Effects were mostly concentrated in kidney and liver function, the two major diet detoxification organs, but in detail differed with each GM type. In addition, some effects on heart, adrenal, spleen and blood cells were also frequently noted. As there normally exists sex differences in liver and kidney metabolism, the highly statistically significant disturbances in the function of these organs, seen between male and female rats, cannot be dismissed as biologically insignificant as has been proposed by others. We therefore conclude that our data strongly suggests that these GM maize varieties induce a state of hepatorenal toxicity....These substances have never before been an integral part of the human or animal diet and therefore their health consequences for those who consume them, especially over long time periods are currently unknown."

Monsanto has immediately responded to the study, stating that the research is "based on faulty analytical methods and reasoning and do not call into question the safety findings for these products."

The IJBS study's author Gilles-Eric Séralini responded to the Monsanto statement on the blog, Food Freedom, "Our study contradicts Monsanto conclusions because Monsanto systematically neglects significant health effects in mammals that are different in males and females eating GMOs, or not proportional to the dose. This is a very serious mistake, dramatic for public health. This is the major conclusion revealed by our work, the only careful reanalysis of Monsanto crude statistical data."

Forbes magazine also named Monsanto 'Company of the Year.'

This just reeks of slime to me.  Greedy bastards.

here's another article about them: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/13/monsanto-squeezes-out-see_n_390354.html

you do... organic is a scam, Monsanto is one one of the largest
suppliers to seed houses in the world, they've acquired and supply
to several companies that sell organic seed and have petitioned the FDA
to allow many chemicals in the use of organic agriculture in addition to
the genetically modified 'organic' seed

Unfortunately Monsanto is destroying the world, one bad seed at a time.

It's a monopoly like we've never seen before.

They are HUGE, into everything and everywhere, working with the FDA in a quest to make it illegal for farmer's to get their seeds anywhere but from them.  Pretty sick stuff.

Just wanted to spread awareness on this here

Don't worry, people.  They only put this corn into feed lots for livestock, all the soda you drink, and just about every food product you buy.

You assume all organic is a fraud. Perhaps I know where my organic food comes from. If you are a farmer, do you grow organic or refuse the term? If you refuse the term, why?

Bread Kills!

1. More than 98 percent of convicted felons are bread users.
2. Fully HALF of all children who grow up in bread-consuming households score below average on standardized tests.

3. In the 18th century, when virtually all bread was baked in the home, the average life expectancy was less than 50 years; infant mortality rates were unacceptably high; many women died in childbirth; and diseases such as typhoid, yellow fever, and influenza ravaged whole nations.

4. Every piece of bread you eat brings you nearer to death.

5. Bread is associated with all the major diseases of the body. For example, nearly all sick people have eaten bread. The effects are obviously cumulative:

99.9% of all people who die from cancer have eaten bread.
100% of all soldiers have eaten bread.
96.9% of all Communist sympathizers have eaten bread.
99.7% of the people involved in air and auto accidents ate bread within 6 months preceding the accident.
93.1% of juvenile delinquents came from homes where bread is served frequently.
6. Evidence points to the long-term effects of bread eating: Of all people born before 1839 who later dined on bread, there has been a 100% mortality rate.
7. Bread is made from a substance called "dough." It has been proven that as little as a teaspoon of dough can be used to suffocate a lab rat. The average American eats more bread than that in one day!

8. Primitive tribal societies that have no bread exhibit a low incidence of cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease, and osteoporosis.

9. Bread has been proven to be addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and being fed only water begged for bread after as little as two days.

10. Bread is often a "gateway" food item, leading the user to "harder" items such as butter, jelly, peanut butter, and even cold cuts.

11. Bread has been proven to absorb water. Since the human body is more than 90 percent water, it follows that eating bread could lead to your body being taken over by this absorptive food product, turning you into a soggy, gooey bread-pudding person.

12. Newborn babies can choke on bread.

13. Bread is baked at temperatures as high as 400 degrees Fahrenheit! That kind of heat can kill an adult in less than one minute.

14. Most bread eaters are utterly unable to distinguish between significant scientific fact and meaningless statistical babbling.

In light of these frightening statistics, we propose the following bread restrictions:

1. No sale of bread to minors.
2. A nationwide "Just Say No To Toast" campaign, complete celebrity TV spots and bumper stickers.
3. A 300 percent federal tax on all bread to pay for all the societal ills we might associate with bread.
4. No animal or human images, nor any primary colors (which may appeal to children) may be used to promote bread usage.
5. The establishment of "Bread-free" zones around schools.

I dont assume that all organic is the same, I do know that several large
corporations including Monsanto,ConAgra and HJ Heinz are 90% of the
organic market share, all that lovely organic produce in most grocery
stores, one of these companies produced it, each of these companies have
lobbied the FDA/USDA to alter the rules a bit regarding additives in the
foods and synthetics that can be used in agriculture while still
maintaining organic standards, about 3 years ago I posted a report from
the USDA showing that a total of 5% of the materials used in organic
agriculture can be synthetic in nature

do I reject the term organic in reference to what I grow, yes and why
you ask, because of the bastardization brought about to the USDA,
there's a growing movement toward 'naturally grown' that I also havent
adopted, while based on the USDA organic standards it doesnt include the
use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers regardless of the amount

what do I call mine.... food but to get people to understand what it is
I grow, it's simple to say 'organic' but then I usually have to explain
and even invite them to see the methods
