I'm gonna guess bad fuel pump, clog in fuel line, or just really, really dirty injectors. Perhaps the fuel injection system isn't getting enough power for some reason.

When was the last time you replaced your spark plugs?

Well, if you get the opportunity, go up to the car, turn on the key, and listen for the fuel pump.  If you hear a "rrrrvvvvvvveekchhht", that's the fuel pump working fine.

My dad says it just ran out of gas, likely.

I'll bet my price on that.

So, cost to fix that would be:  Tow - $50, Time inspecting the car - $80, 1 gallon of gas for the fix - $2.55


$135 about for the fix and initial tow...

And if your mechanic tells you it's the fuel filter, change it yourself.  Go online, get a diagram.  Use plastic bags around the hose lines, so that they don't leak gasoline everywhere.  Simple to do yourself, will save you ~80 in labor costs + their marked up product price...Autozone, BB.

But, as for the fuel pump, again.  If your mechanic says that's what it is.  Go in to his shop and turn the key to "ON", then listen near where you pump the gas into your car.  It should make a sound like it is activating.  Listen to a friend's car when he turns it to on.  Not trying to turn it over yet, just switch car to "ON"...

Well, the results are in...(sort of).

The Official guesses are all in. Entries/guesses after this post will not be counted.

At 3:28pm PST on Monday, January 11, 2010, the mechanic called me and told me this.

The final diagnose for the my 1998 Chevy Blazer:bigblunt: LS is:...........Faulty Ignition Module*

                        Estimated Repair Cost for Parts & Labor:.....................$280*

**The mechanic could NOT install the ignition module today because the part was not in stock but he said could get a new module tomorrow, and hopefully install it Tuesday before noon. Since this is just a diagnose and an estimate of the cost, I am going to wait until my vehicle is repaired and can start and run again before I start declaring the winners or giving out prizes. The reason for this is that there could be other unforeseen problems that might reveal themselves once the car is started.

I'll report back tomorrow afternoon to tell you the final results of the repair and if that truely what was wrong with my vehicle...

Bad alternator
Possibly have a power leak somewhere that could cause a strange on the rest of the system. Had a 2002  Malibu  that had this made my whole electrical system go haywire. When I sold it the blinkers would only work when would rapidly tap the hazard lights... Sold it to car max for a good price.

wouldn't a faulty ignition moduel not let it crank at all? sounds a bit fishy, i bet they found a short somewhere and just want to charge you for an expensive part

alternator, possible since the amperage was rated low, generally though
that low amperage wont allow the starter to spin the engine and a bad
alternator wont stop it from starting so we move to unlikely there


distributor is a possibility but more specifically it would be the
ignition module inside the distributor, maybe a cracked cap or a bad rotor

other possibilities are things like the TPS or MAS going bad

nope... ignition module controls the spark, an ignition switch connects
the starter it would crank but not start
