Picking Poo, Mixed with?

Ok I went and made a lasting impression on the people at my local horse racing facility... I went with security clearance to the stables and shoveled some shit mixed with hay or straw, and there was also some wood chips mixed in. Before I pasteurize should I take out these things and use just the poo or are the wood chips in there good or bad for anything? I also don't know how to tell the difference between hay or straw, I've heard that straw isn't good so If someone can tell me how to differ it so I can go in and start separating what I collected in my box. Thanks

I would take the wood out. Doing some experiments of my own with homemade compost I have experienced contams which seemed to originated from any wood contained therein. The straw is good, use that. Myceilium loves straw.

ha ha ha! enjoy going through that shit picking out the bits! don't forget to take out all the bits of cellulose and insect pods too!
straw is green. when it dries out, it's hay, which is yellow.

You can get yourself a shaker from a gardening store to sift out the loose derbis in your poo. You can also make one with some chicken wire and 2x4's. Works really well. I use one on any compost that I use. It will seperate out the straw, but you can add that back in later.
