I didn't see that video, but I thought people praised him as being scientifically accurate. I don't see how this can be the case if he, in any context, said "Your brain pumps out heavy doses of DMT".

Why should I?

I have already made my opinion of him based on his lame ass video clips and his piss poor attempts at stand up comedy.

I don't see how reading his drivel (as opposed to listening to it) is going to change my opinion of him one bit

The medium is the message.

In this scenario, the medium is a personally unknown public figure--a talking head of sorts--who, by using other people's creative material, has cashed in on the resurgence in psychedelic drug popularity... perhaps in exchange for fame, substance material, and media attention.

Again, with that said, most of our actions originate from base and selfish motives. Being in the academic community, this sort of reality becomes quickly apparent just considering the "publish or perish" mentality that pervades the literature. The same is even true of the people he is "ripping" off; if one listens close to McKenna he is drawing a lot his words from early investigations of consciousness (metaphysical philosophy) and shamanism, as Mircea Eliade, Aldous Huxley, Gordon Wasson, or even stuff as old as Heraclitus.

The point is not to synthesize new information. This is the illusion of science in thinking it is surfacing new phenomena. It's been there all along... what it took was direction, inspiration, and the human imagination; it took LOOKING. And the same rings true for personal revelation.

Joe Rogan, despite all of his fartiness, is still putting together pieces of the puzzle and encouraging people to turn on. That's all we need right now! If more people like him in mainstream media would name drop the power of DMT, we could accelerate this whole process.
