I think it would be greatly beneficial to have one.
I feel like I need a place to just melt away at any time I want.

My buddy and I made a pact that one of us will have an isolation tank in 10 years, so I want to stick to that goal.

Most bigger cities have flotation tanks inexpensively for rent. The approach to controlling consciousness in this way is known as the Restricted Environmental Stimulation Technique (REST). It's not as intense as what is being said here.

On another note, I brought up to Joe Rogan one time (a friend was participating in one of his live video streams) that most of his commentary about psychedelics, particular DMT, is completely plagiarized from Terence Mckenna. Instantly, he singled me out from the list of fans whistling about farts and wrestling, and said, "No, I have been influenced by him, yes, but I have not ripped him off."

Mind you, I have seen videos of him on radio talk shows saying the elves "told him not to give way to astonishment". Please.

Who the hell is Joe Rogan?  Sounds like he's trying to get laid...

I'm sure he's exaggerating a bit, but I would still really like to experience a good trip in one of those things.  I'd imagine 10 tabs of acid or 10 grams of mushrooms would be amazing in an isolation chamber.  I think you'd also be able to tell how strikingly different mushrooms and acid are.

John Lilly was a genius. He saw through the blatant holes of many, many different belief systems. He also did a lot of work with dolphins and helped push the knowledge that dolphins are more intelligent than humans. His work with isolation tanks definitely makes me want to experience the isolation tank - there are a few places in my city which have them and you can pay to use them for an hour or more at a time.

I don't think you really need 10 tabs of acid or 10 grams of mushrooms to have an amazing experience in one of these things. The nature of these things is to make you go deep into your mind by shutting out the outside world, so your brain trips naturally.

I don't think he pushed that at all.  I think he brought to the forefront the idea that other mammals are closely related in intelligence to humans.  Smarter than humans?  I don't think so.

Oh, I know you don't *need* psychedelics, and I'd definitely like to experience an isolation tank without psychedelics as well.  I'm sure, however, that psychedelics would definitely alter the journey you go on.  And I'm sure mushrooms would produce a completely different journey to LSD.
