Flickery, I'll help you push this along.

A couple of months ago, I did an internet search of the rainbow family in hopes of someday being able to meet some like minded folks and foster a few new friendships. Being in the Bible belt, and over 40 it is sometimes hard to find the sort of folks that I would really enjoy spending time with. The idea of cooking or gathering wood or digging a pit or bringing potable water or all of them: appeals to me. I derive great pleasure from those things. I wasn't looking for what kind of drugs I could get or how high I could become. I was looking for new friends. Old friends that I had yet to meet.
I found a few web pages but didn't quite know where to jump in at and how to approach the whole thing. So I just kind of put it on the back burner and remembered something that I was told a long time ago; "When the student is ready, the teacher will come." That has served me well and I have found it to be true in many circumstances. Some of the most wonderful things that I have ever experienced have happened almost magically and in due time.
With that disclosure done, I will try to get closer to the point of this thread.
I believe that there is good and bad in almost everything. I don't think that you can have a utopia for very long without a few spoilers coming into the equation. People grow old. People tire out or burn out. Things change. What used to be is just that, and it takes a valiant and courageous effort to keep the spirit of something alive.
The "new" have to have some understanding of what the old was. Without a very good understanding of the past, it is hard to set a new course.
I'm rambling so before I say too much and they push my wheelchair into a corner without a window, I'll stop.
I will say this. I would like to hear from anyone who understands what I am trying to share. This wonderful site allows the use of  :pm: which is an awesome way to communicate.
Peace Y'all.:sun:

would you feel safe leaving your tent somewhere with your pack in it there?

I'm thinking about attending the upcoming one but that's what makes me not want to go, I wouldn't want to carry around a 70 pound pack and put up/ take down my tent for a week straight.

I don't know if the question is for me or not but I've traveled a lot in my limited range. Been to western Europe twice. I've found that other campers usually look out for one another and the people who steal shit are either hooked on hard drugs or something else equally as bad.
IDK? I guess it depends on the situation and how much I thought I had to loose.

Bring a day pack and keep your valuables in that.  Leave behind the heavy stuff that no one would want to take.

No one will take your tent, unless you're camped in a place where no one can see your stuff.

Maybe camp within eyesight of a kitchen and ask if people would keep an eye on your junk.

Just be sure that you've got positivity in your heart and that your love knows no bounds.

Good things come to those that are good.

Quote,
"No one will take your tent, unless you're camped in a place where no one can see your stuff."

I have to be honest. I would give and share anything I have. But that quote scares the hell out of me. Not like scary. Like disturbing.
I come from a land where things are given and not taken.
That doesn't mean that I am a trust fund kid that gets anything I want.
That means that what little I have belongs to me and I choose who to share it with.
Anyone in real and serious need is treated with respect and compassion. I don't have one standard for myself and another for others.
With that said, I feel that those who steal and rape and hurt to feed their habits, need to be weeded out of my company.
I have no desire to be around the black holes that suck energy and resources with no intent or desire to ever give anything back.
I can understand how that the rainbow family could tolerate some stuff. But when the rubber meets the road. There (for me at least and judge me accordingly) needs to be boundaries.
Stealing is wrong.
Hurting others is wrong.
My needs are never greater than your needs or haves.
Because you have something that I don't does NOT give me the right to take it from you.

That quote is not correct.  I just wrote what I had come to mind right away.

It's just that some people who wander around may find it and think it's a good idea to take stuff from it.

Imagine you're going to a music festival.  Would you trust others to not fuck with it there?  Yes?  No?

Well, a rainbow gathering is like a music festival, except the music is less loud, and the drugs aren't quite as proliferous/blatant.

It's low-key.  Beautiful, etc.

People with an established reputation, be it good or bad, still have established theirselfs.

So, get out, meet folks, play them some music, and be happy if you go.

If you worry about your things, then you expect negativity, and you'll get it.

There's a great saying.  It's a good way to live the life.  It is:

Manifesto Presto.

That is to say, you manifest something, and then...Presto!

So, if in your mind you're manifesting negativity, then presto, you've got it.

So don't think bad thoughts, or bad thoughts'll become your reality.

I also want to go to a Rainbow Gathering. Seems awesome. I'd be able to try all drugs I haven't gotten a chance to do

Yes, it's a merry land where drugs grow from gumdrop drees and hippies just lay around eating grapes and sexing all day.

dude say what you mean instead of posting replies that may sound funny to you, but are completely meaningless to those who don't know anything about these gatherings. it's just unhelpful.

I recommend traveling light. My tent was looted once at a gathering.

I've been going out to the Ocala gatherings for around 4 years now. I live 45 minutes away and I'm very familiar with the area. Every Jan-Feb I can spot hippies rolling through town headed for Ocala. Being so close to a big gathering there is tons of lore around here concerning the rainbows. It's amazing how people who have never even been close to a gathering will try and tell me, someone who has been to several, about how horrible they are.

I've only had positive experiences at the gatherings, the worst thing I've seen are rambunctious drunks, which are all most all ways congregated at the beginning of the trail. Last year I estimate we walked 3 miles to get to the main circle, which I thought was rad becuase most of the drunks didn't want to hike that far.

You go into the woods and set up your camp. Then you walk around and visit other camps, meet everyone at the main circle at 420 for a giant smoke session. Then everyone goes their ways again. You go the kitchen to get free food, or visit the bazaar to trade, or get naked and have sex with your partner in the woods. when night falls, you light camp fires, sing, smoke, laugh, when morning rises, it's a new day.

It's just life in the woods among others in a community.

This is very accurate. It's just a ton of great people kickin' it in the woods. People are super friendly and fun to talk with, it's like you all ready know every one. It's so liberating to be able to smoke and discuss cannabis openly, people are great about sharing too:bigjoint: I've only been to Ocala so I can't vouch for every gathering.

I spend a lot of time in the woods, including a lot of former rainbow gathering sites so I can say that who ever helps clean up in Ocala does a spectacular job, no traces left :peace:

Pro Tip:  FWC(Florids Wildlife Control) are major thumper heads in our area, sometimes they like to come bust our balls at gatherings. This can mean ID checks on an entrance road, taking your tent because it's within 50 feet of the FL trail, etc. Once your in the woods though, you'll usually get alerted to their presence before they get too close. This is a rare concurrence but it's good to know:thumbup:
