Minor deviation from Doc's WBS Tek OK due to laziness?
    #11372523 -

Hello all,

I'm to the point in the Tek where I soaked the seeds overnight for 24 hours, and the next step is to simmer, inoculate etc...

I'm just wondering if it's OK to drain the seeds (done) and place them in the pot overnight w/ a lid in the fridge and simmer/inoculate tomorrow?

Work made me stay late, and I'm exhausted...

  Sincerely,

  Sondor

Better to do the job well with a good night's sleep, IMO.

Edit -I'm not the Doc from the tek.

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

get it out of the fridge asap ... the entire reason you soak wbs or grains is to endospore the bad bacteria so the pc can kill it ... this should be done at room temp at the lowest ...if you refrigerate it theres a chance it may not do so thus defeating the purpose of soaking ...

Thanks all,

Cyantific, I looked up the Wiki on Endospores, and found the following:

Reactivation of the endospore occurs when conditions are more favourable and involves activation, germination, and outgrowth. Even if an endospore is located in plentiful nutrients, it may fail to germinate unless activation has taken place. This may be triggered by heating the endospore.

This leads me to believe refrigerator temperatures may be better than leaving the pot out all night?

  Sincerely,

  Sondor

you want them activated so pc can kill lol but if you soaked in room temp for 24 then ur good ... i misread your post and thought you were soaking while in fridge ... to be honest id let them sit out all night with no water if you dont have time just to make sure  ... gl to you though ... docs a good member and his tek is well used ... peace !
