you can use popcorn if you really want but i still think you should try rye berries. i have 60 spawn jars and 50 spawn bags of popcorn all made with rye berries and the myc is ripping through them.

I concur, rye definitely colonizes faster. But popcorn is kinda fun if you're not in a hurry.

Popcorn preparation is as follows:

1. Pour 2 bags walmart popcorn ($1.80) into large pot of water.
2. Put heat on high until you get a rolling boil.
3. Let it boil for an hour and a half.
4. Strain it hot and let it drain a couple hours.
5. Divy it up into 7 quart jars.
6. Pressure cook at 15 psi for 90 min.

No rinsing, no soaking, no simmering, no worrying about over-cooking, cheap, and widely available.

Don't buy into that bs about popcorn "harboring endospores that survive pressure cooking".

Nothing is going to survive an hour and a half of boiling in water plus 90 minutes in the p.c. at 15psi....NOTHING.
