The Eigenharp, bitches!
    #11281264 -

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8295813.stm

Quote:
What is claimed to be ''the most revolutionary new musical instrument of the last 60 years'' has been unveiled after eight years in development.

The Eigenharp is designed specifically for live performance, enabling a wide range of sounds to be played and improvised.

It is the brainchild of John Lambert, a musician and software entrepreneur.

David Sillito was given a demonstration of its range by three musicians.

EDIT: click the link for a live performance

FUCKING AWESOME!!! It reminds me of the instrument in Futurama. Things are getting all futuristic and what not, I love it!

Seems novel.
Why can't I just do that with a computer and some keys?
Or a keyboard and a loop station?

How?
I mean I'm all for a new instrument, but I don't see how this thing provides anything unique. Not a new tone, not new features.
Any duo who knows their way around a keyboard and a drum set could recreate that with ease.

I don't feel like explaining how awesome this is if you can't see it yourself. Thats just fine, Debbie Downer!  :djkoopa:

I think it's retarded.

Just a keyboard that you hold like a guitar.

It's a keyboard on a vertical neck with a "mouthpiece" (for whatever reason) and a drum pad? Correct? Not to mention there's not much that kills music to me more than poor sounding drums.

I mean it's cool and all, but really only for its novelty.

Do you not feel like explaining it, or do you lack the ability to?

But playing it live is another thing. This allows you to recreate any studio beats/rhythms/sounds on stage, live. And in doing so, it allows the user to even add his own originality in the process. Thus, concerts will no longer need prerecorded sounds. Rather, everything will be live.

What kind of lame ass concert uses a prerecorded sound

In fact two guys could probably throw down tracks that are as least as interesting as those with something like this set up:

With a sequence setup and another guy on set. Give a third guy guitar or bass with a pedal and you probably have freer range with just as many people.

Yeah, but a drum set can't sound like a guitar, clarinet, and synthesized bass at the same time.

:vaped:

And Moogs are fucking gay.

Dude, go back to the 80's and 90's with that shit. That sounds like a terrible 90's rental car commercial.

No but a drum set sounds like a drum set and keys can sound like whatever the fuck you want them to.

I don't see how you can think a Moog is gay but like this thing.

Sorry my quick Youtube search didn't yield the highest quality of musicians.
