Monotubs vs Trays
    #11271794 -

I was just pondering, and perhaps you folks can help complete my thought process for me.

Which would you consider the "easier" bulk method to maintain, monotubs, or trays inside of a shotgun fc or a pmp?  What I was thinking is, trays in a pmp or fc would be way easier to maintain, since you don't have to clean out the old tub once you're done and you can start colonizing new trays while trays are fruiting, as opposed to in monotubs where you have to wait until the tubs have finished fruiting to clean out those tubs to colonize a new tub.  Also, the only real "cleaning" you have to do, especially for a pmp is to add more water, and maybe some h202 or bleach to the water to keep things fresh.  Overall, it seems like trays are just less of a hassle overall.  Any thoughts?

2 monotubs in rotation is by far easier than trays

:pm: me if you have questions about lasers

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

Why do you think that?

What if one were to make a pmp or fc with polyfil/micropore holes like a monotub, would that enable one to "set it and forget it"?

I do trays but have never done monos, I never need/want that many hallucinogenic munchrooms. I expect a well done mono to do 3-5 kilos over its life, piss.

I can fit many trays in my SG of various sizes, each tray (2-3L) gives 500g over its whole life EASY and you are spreading risk with trays.

3 in FC and 3 colonising when things are at the max, with each cycle giving over 1 kg fresh. with trays you can grow small amounts of many strains or species and if you want to test strains you dont need a monotub

Both teks will need you to do manuall FAE atleast a few times a day.

PMP - air pump + Polyfil = monotub.

Put a trash bag down if you don't want to clean up, or just put the trays in a big tub filled with poly stuffed holes.

Good point.  Would having the airpump/perlite really be detrimental though?

I'm a sterility nazi, yet I still get contamed (Looking for the source, currently).

If you are spawning to bulk and using an air-pump, you are most likely forcing dirty air into a container that contains un-colonized bulk substate. Unless your a fan of cultivating trich, it sounds like a bad plan to me.

I'd almost be worried about getting the sub too wet, as trying to increase the RH by air-pump will just cause excessive condensation. This condensation dripping on top of your tray could possibly cause a problem. Maybe a 'tent' or something for it to keep it from getting rained on would be beneficial.

Honestly, it sounds like you're going through a ton of hassle to save 10 mins of cleanup a month.

yeah but i like to grow a ton of buttons so the monotubs work great.

also if your looking to maintain a supply you have one colonizing, one fruiting and spawn jars.. then just rotate.

That's why you wouldn't put uncolonized trays in the tub.  You would wait until they're fully colonized, then put them in the tray to fruit.

Not after I get a AT power supply, they won't.
