Smoked naoh crystals i think (making dmt)

so im pretty pissed....i put 20 grams mimosa hostilis and 20 grams sodium hydroxide to 600 ml distilled water....then added 150ml naphtha 8 hours later....and pulled the naphtha out with an old spore syringe with duct-tape where the rubber piece was...and freeze precip'd the naphtha in a plastic salsa container so i dont know.....when i smoked it, it had a nasty taste...and i was gagging hard....it kinda tastes like bleach so i think it was sodium hydroxide....what am i doing wrong?

I'm incredibly tired so I could be wrong, but wouldn't NaOH smoked not only be incredibly difficult to burn but would be NaO, but that's indifferent due to the fact that if you got that into your lungs you want to be in the ER like right about.... now.

Unless you pulled some of the black water up with the naphtha you did not smoke NaOH.

DMT has a very unique taste, kinda like a really weird plastic.


Personally i love the taste. :shrug:


How white or yellow were the crystals?

Were they gooey or dry almost salt like?

they were salt like but these xstals i smoked were nasty....they made me want to hock up mucus

the melting point of naCl is ridiculously high, as is for most ionic-bonded molecules.  so you probably couldn't even vaporize NaOH without an 800+ degree flame.

also, NaOH won't go into the nonpolar solvent (naphtha) so unless you sucked up water you shouldn't have had any in the yield anyhow

You may just have a sensitive palate. 

I assume you allowed plenty of time for the naphtha to evap.




I also imagine that was an interesting experience, if you didnt enjoy the taste.

If you burn it it can taste pretty bloody awful...

Any chance of contamination from the plastic container you used to precipate? Not all plastics like solvents. Use glass where you can.

what would it look like if your xstals were contamd with sodium hydroxide....that stupid tweeker ass base chemical is what makes me say fuck extracting dmt....i dont trust any xstals

It doesn't really matter if you got NaOH in your end-product,it won't vaporise,not at the temperatures DMT does anyway,or a lighter can achieve...

However it is highly unlikely that you did,and if you have crystals it's even more so because the product needs to be a certain degree of purity for them to form.

DMT vapor is harsh,and burning it is even worse,so that's probably it.

what is it if there is a overall white cloudy look to the naphtha while its in a bowl evaporating?.....and how long does it take to evaporate?

evap some of the naphtha you used, just pure naphtha in a clean evaporating dish.

does it leave a residue?

It's normal for the naptha to become cloudy as it evaporates, it's most likely just a sign that it's becoming more saturated with goodies...

How fast will it evap? The speed that the solvent evaporates is dependant on temperature and airflow. If you want it to speed it up stick it somewhere warm, but you're probably best off forgetting about it and leaving it to do it's thing over a day or two.

Certain bases like NaOH can actually etch glass, be careful...

HDPE containers for the basification stage is a good strategy, but for precipation/re-xing glass is a must for easy retrieval of product.

You would have to REALLY mess up the extraction procedure in order to get ANY NaOH in there. This is why it is highly recommended to not get any of that bottom layer in with the naptha...
