Favre breaks career passing marks
    #11190825 - 10/06/09 12:38 AM (8 years, 11 months ago)

No, not that Favre.

St. Stanislaus QB and nephew of Brett Favre is state's new career leader in passing yardage and touchdown passes.

On his way to Friday night’s football game, Dylan Favre was texting back and forth with his famous uncle, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre, who was wishing him good luck on setting some major Mississippi state passing records.

“We kind of knew it was coming,” Bay St. Louis St. Stanislaus coach Forrest Williams told MaxPreps. “We talked about getting it over with (in pre-game discussions).”

On Friday night, Favre completed 40 of 48 passes (one interception) for 506 yards and six touchdowns as St. Stanislaus rolled past Greene County, 42-21, to set state records for career passing yardage (9,419) and touchdowns (108) with four regular-season games left.

“It was pretty huge, because the previous records stood for 18 or 19 years," Williams said. "To be Mississippi’s all-time leader – with the kind of talent that comes out of Mississippi – that’s pretty impressive.

“It was really a team record. Our offensive line had a great night. Our receivers were really sharp. We played probably our most complete game of the season.”

Greene County officials announced Favre’s record-tying 104th touchdown pass, then stopped the game when he threw record No. 105 and presented him with the game ball.

Earlier this year, the 5-foot-11, 192-pound senior established a state record for passing yards in one game (562) and as a junior he set his first state standard with 45 touchdown passes in one year.

During the game, Biloxi Sun Herald sports writer Al Jones received a text from Brett Favre which stated, “Awesome achievement. I’m proud of him.”

The Rockachaws now have a 6-1 record and their major goal remains the same – win a state championship.

“The crisis takes a much longer time coming than you think, and then it happens much faster than you would have thought.”  -- Rudiger Dornbusch
