Adderall for college (esp. homework)?

I don't know if it's just me in general, or if the car accident (head/neck injury) I got in has something to do with it...

but when it comes to time-consuming, mundane subjects I have little interest in, I just can't get myself to do what I've got to do. I have too little interest, and too much interest in things I actually enjoy.


Don't get me wrong, I am above-average intelligence, and passionate about learning (about things I am INTERESTED in)...but hours of math homework is damn near like hell to me, and I just can't stay on task.

I think the head injury has really added to the problem as well. In fact, it's gotten to the point where I am about to go and get documentation for ADD to help out with school. Too bad I think that mostly just means extra time for tests, which I don't really have such a problem with. ITS THE HOMEWORK


I have heard from quite a few peers that adderall can work wonders when it comes to this, but 1) I don't like taking drugs, especially for conditions that aren't entirely mine 2) thanks to the car accident, I have a serious problem with headaches, so I am afraid of that, and 3) I am a bit concerned about side effects, especially if they might become permanent (i dont know really). I have heard mostly good things about taking adderall to help with school but I have also heard a small number of reports of side-effects

coffee used to help but now it seems to make me too racy to stay on task


anybody have any input?

Yeah, meth makes you cracked out, so you work harder or something. But it's not good for you.

i duno, adderall isn't very speedy for me, i actually get depressed when I take it.

but thats just me.

I would try and find something interesting about subjects that aren't interesting.

so u will be interested.

thats what i do.

but yeah, it's hard not to study for something ur not interested in, thats why u should try and find an interest in it./


most things interest me tho.

like everything random interests me, cuz they all connect in some way.

only thing i hate is english. :mad2:

well from what I hear, it makes it damn near fun to sit there for hours doing homework. Aside from headaches, I don't want it to start inducing schizophrenic-like symptoms

I'm done with all my english. I really didn't have a problem there, one of my stronger subjects. It's music theory and math homework that are getting me. Too tedious & mundane, too time consuming. I just can't focus on it

Yeah it's true, it makes it super easy to focus on even the most mind-numbingly mundane task..
why do you think shrinks prescribe it to practically 75% of the kids in the US?

Homework is never fun. Period.

You may get motivation to do it, but it definitely isn't fun.

Period.

A low-med dose won't do anything but speed you out some and get you motivated

Its only the higher doses that make you feel all geeked out (IME)

I'm on adderall right now, and putting off my homework too.  It makes me very distractable.  However, if I DO get going on something (homework, cleaning, masturbating), I don't stop until i'm completely exhausted, even if I have finished.  This results in many rambling papers, a house that is organized to the point of not being able to find anything, and a sore dick.

if u stay up for days without sleep, u will get psychotic episodes no matter what.

i duno man, adderall effects most ppl differently it seems.

like ppl with ADHD, it calms them down. so :shrug:

what works for some doesn't necessarily work for others, so give it a try :thumbup:

it may help

different folks for different strokes

well please feel free to suggest any alternatives

sigh...I might give it a try, if i really need to do homework for hours on end one day. I'm still afraid of a headache, but maybe I'll try a smaller dose.

I've been exercising to clear up the pathways in my brain and maybe help me focus but it's only been helping so much

Yeah my problem with adderall is that I can easily be distracted into doing something more fun than say homework :lol:

but

u dont wanna have to depend on them for doing homework.

instead, maybe try using opiates as a reward for doing ur homework.

I was thinking street more than script, but big thanks for those suggestions, I will definitely give those a shot

by the way, gingko biloba gives me a wretched headache, so that's not such an option

If you want to use that option, I'd recommend Dexedrine, which I prefer to Adderall. Dexedrine is just dextroamphetamine (plus binders), whereas Adderall contains dextroamphetamine & levoamphetamine. IME, Adderall gives me more of an edgy "cracked out" feeling than Dexedrine, which I really enjoy. I'm a huge fan of amps, though I only use them when I need to get a lot of shit done.
