What is The Devil?

So who is the biblical/dogmatic devil? What I understood is that God is ourselves/the present/the universe/consciousness. So is  the ego the devil or more our collective ego,who's behaving now like a separate entity from God? Have we created the devil?

A personification of evil, just as the monotheistic God is a personification of good. When humans can't understand something we put it in a way we can understand.

do you mean the devil according to christianity and the bible? Ive always thought the devil and serpent were representative of forbidden knowledge.

I always saw the devil as a representation of our collective disconnection from god. Instead of seeing ourselves as one with the rest of creation, we think of ourselves as separate independent egos. Hence Lucifer wanted the power of god for himself, and was cast out of heaven because of it. The notion that we were once in a state of divine union with the cosmos, but we developed egos and and were disconnected.

It could also been seen as man's separation from nature. An animal is "one" with whatever ecosystem it is embedded in. However, humans in a sense do not work with nature but work against it, creating their own ecosystems that feed of nature(cities). We wanted power for ourselves and were cast out of the kingdom of nature.

if lucifer wanted gods power, what would gods power be? to be all knowing? i.e knowledge?

I'm not actually sure on the details from a christian stand point, maybe someone else could fill those in.

It is most likely all metaphor though. Ie, the example of god being nature, and lucifer being a representation of our collective disconnection from nature. So its not literally that the devil made some conscious decision to try and steal gods power, that is just a metaphor for something that happened naturally to man.

I bet jivJAN will have something to say regarding this topic once he sees it.

I believe the devil is our ego.something that drives us to pursue material possesions in order for us to forget what or who we really are.
Just like how the bible says satan tempted jesus on the mountain.I think it was trying to say jesus realized he could manifest anything he wanted.He could literaly have whatever he wanted in this world but by giving into that he would forget his goal and lose focus.

The Devil & Jesus concept is just the internal duality within the mind. What you would call polarity consciousness, it's the act of continually deeming right from wrong, good from evil. It's an anthropomorphism of how people think.

"God" is the creator and the destroyer(in theory). God created knowledge(in theory). I mean come one he created everything(in theory). To want Gods' power would be to want the ability to literally do and know anything and everything(in theory)
