Sterilizing Mycobags...

I'm about to order a bunch of these filter bags from the mad season, they are empty with a filter patch on them, no self sealing injection site. To prepare them should i load them with wbs/straw/poo and roll the top up until the filter then put a clip on it or what? i'm trying to figure out what to do with the open top. I haven't bought an impulse sealer yet, do i have to have one before i can start? just a couple of questions, maybe someone can help.
What do you use to contain your spawn?

You can use a clip or just tape the bag shut.

i see under shop for the link to impulse sealer.

i just ordered 50 or so and am wondering the same thing. i thought i might use my vacuum sealer to seal the tops first then roll and clip.

i hear you can reuse them too. so any more info will help please.

thanks and i put this in to keep watch on the tread. bags should be here in a day or so and i got the cement mixer ready to roll.

shroom pimp have you used them before? i have not and i am doing a test of 1/2 gal mason jars and the bags. i also have other Q's about the bags inside the pc. is it ok for them to touch the wall and how many can you pc at once?

I do up several hundred bags a month and have never owned an impulse sealer.  I use tie wire to tie the bags shut because it gives a better seal and you don't destroy the bag getting it open.  I use my filter patch bags at least twice.  I've tested them up to four times, but after that they start to get brittle and I've always been worried about getting pinholes.

I fold the bag accordion style with a tyvek wrist sleeve inside during sterilization.  This let's the bag 'burp' steam when needed so it doesn't explode, but then as it cools, the bag pulls tight against the tyvek, filtering the air entering so the contents remain sterile.  You can see a demo of the process on the sawdust/woodchips page and video on my website.

Yeah, I used TMS's bags, they work good. I just inject threw the patch, I use a impulse sealer on a vacum sealer.  It works moy beuno :laugh:

awesome! i like what i hear. I'm thinking of just using the wire tie idea, but using an impulse sealer seems like a good idea, except for opening them... i just don't want it to be an "impulse" buy... <~~not that funny lol... anyways, i'm going to do quite a few so i might try cloths pins, wire ties, and impulse, i saw a 16" for 50 bucks free shipping. well, i'll keep ya'll posted on how mine goes, it would be cool to see pix of what ya'll are working with, but definatly keep me posted. I have the same questions about how many you can do at the same time, and does it damage the bags when they contact the sides of the PC? Thanks everyone!!!

hay pimp did you try it yet?

got mine in and did up 6.. three at a time in my pc. i used wood slats to keep um from the side and knocked them up and put micro pore tape over holes.

the patch lets air go fast so its easy to get it out after you seal them.and i pc.d them for 1.5 hrs at 15-17psi

what do you think pimp have you done it yet


i think TMS is the shit for bags and syringes
