Yup....


And back in the day there was weed that was on par with some of the bud we smoke today....The availability just wasn't nearly as wide spread, the market was extremely flooded with shitty weed.

And back in the day there was weed that was on par with some of the bud we smoke today....The availability just wasn't nearly as wide spread, the market was extremely flooded with shitty weed.


I agree with this.I have seen pics and read a few things that I can not find right now(lazy) that states the potency has increased maybe 3-5% in cannabis.The fact that we have the internet and more people are able to send seeds from different places to make different strains is a factor.The pics I have seen in black and white showed sativa looking bud that matched any bud pic I have seen today,only in black and white.The potency argument is a scare tactic used to get people away from the idea that cannabis is not that bad for most people.It will be legal soon and this is the last gasp for the people in power.

alright i can agree with all what is said. Thanks for the clarification and for links. I can see how weed has become stronger and as other drugs simply stay the same, LSD is debatable its just how ever much is on a tab at any one time.

and we dont know the details of those studies for instance back then they
could have been testing some mexican brown and compare it to todays sour
diesel or something... if they compare the same strain to the same strain
then maybe the study will a little more accurate

90% of what you read about potency of drugs is propaganda, 100% of what
you read in comparing drugs 40 years ago to drugs today is just bullshit

Pretty hard to compare strains when most are quite new.  You know yourself that selective breeding leads to an increase in desirable traits.  It's obvious that the weed available now is superior to what was around 40 years ago.

well as of right now i guess many of us dont have valid information and its more what you choose you want to believe.

but the argument can go both ways. I believe that weed has gotten stronger since what it used to be.

is it really or are we just managing cultivation better, has the THC in the marijuana actually gotten more potent?

The THC molecules don't change, if they did they wouldn't be THC any more.  The amount of THC in plants has increased.

The two are aspects of the same thing.  Weed now is stronger than weed available in the sixties due to selective breeding.

tests, mc, stains, every drug that is now is stronger then what is was back then. just because you cant get a sample of whats now does'nt mean its lesser then what was then. infact its all more potent now.

Yeah I bet the acid going around during the 60's was wayy stronger man. + for a while it was LEGAL meaning you could order it from a company in Europe and know exactly how much you are taking.

There is still really strong acid going around but I just assume back in the day the cid was all one hit quit lol.

Also it was cheaper, haha. People were just giving away hits but that still happens today.

I bet the marijuana stunk back in the 60's tho cause our bud now is so potent. Most of the grass back then was just brick weed from mexico.

between 1985 and 1998, marijuana potency has less than doubled. It has gone up, but not by the amount that drug warriors state.

There are several reasons why Marijuana is stronger now IMO
1) Technology
Hydroponics was probably not widespread in the 70s. I would imagine it was mostly outdoor grows, which have now shifted indoor due to legal pressure. I can imagine good weed being available, but not as widespread as it is today

2) Breeding
40 years of selective breeding leaves us with more strains now that ever before.

3) Home grown
Most of the weed from the 70s was grown outdoors in mexico and brought over by plane. This weed was probably brought in bulk, and was brick by today's standards.

LSD was probably more potent back then, as the precursors weren't as stringently monitored.

we can make that assumption based on what information we currently have
but there's still no way to prove that since I remember 8 people getting
ripped from a single joint back when I was in 9th grade

I'm sure that there are stronger strains of weed
today than there were 40 years ago

but one can't easily say that the average
weed on the street then was any more potent than
the average weed on the street is today

there are simply too many variables to make a factual decision

apples and oranges, compare dirt grown jack herrer to dirt grown
Acapulco Gold from back in the day with the same cultivation techniques
and what's the difference in potency at that point

more strains of the same plant, yes they're cross bred for certain
traits but I've seen and grown some bad seed that's been as potent as
any named strain on the market

and nothing has changed, in 2009 weed is being brought in from mexico
and other places south of the border, bought in bulk and still still
called brick weed, hell I've seen the 'rubbermade' imprint in some of
the shit I bought a few years back

it doesnt matter of the home grown was indoor or outdoor grown, what
matters is the nutrients and care the plants receive, most commercial
weed is planted and picked and little care goes into it's production
